Product Description

Product Description

He’s surly, tactless, self-centered, and uptight—but he’s the only doctor in town.

As a successful London surgeon, Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes, Men Behaving Badly) didn’t need a bedside manner. His patients were unconscious, so he could be as rude and arrogant as he pleased. All that changes when he develops a crippling fear of blood and is forced to switch careers. Now a GP in a sleepy, picturesque Cornish fishing village, Doc Martin offends everyone in town, including the one person he wants to impress, beautiful teacher Louisa Glasson (Caroline Catz, Murder in Suburbia). Getting her attention proves even more difficult when Louisa’s old flame returns to the village and becomes his new rival.

Martin Clunes shines in this award-winning comic drama set amid eccentric townsfolk and spectacular scenery. As the doctor says, “It’s good to be loathsome.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Introduce your friends to Doc Martin... Aug 4 2009
Format:DVD
From the first time we stumbled across a season one episode on Vision TV, we were delighted with the irascible Doc Martin. This brilliantly written series is a must-see, bright, witty and funny, wonderful story lines and characters. And, most unusual these days, suitable for all ages. Imagine!... a rollicking good story that doesn't lean on sex, designer bodies and fab clothes to garner an audience!

Season Three is in the can, and Four is in production! I am only sorry the boxed set of Seasons 1-3 plus the Christmas episode is not available in North America. If it were, all my Christmas shopping would be done!

4.0 out of 5 stars Incongruity Feb 14 2010
Format:DVD
The series is set in Cornwall , the glorious coast line is the main backdrop , with the gorse and rather bleak mainland interior of this county . Doc Martin is totally suited to be a family doctor in terms of skill
but totally inept socially when dealing with the Cornish residents . The humor is formed by the incongruous interplay between the kindly , gossipy locals and the stiff and formal doctor . Beautifully acted , this
is a series to be treasured and revisited again .
