A new series of Doc Martin seems to be a treat we can look forward two every two years. That was how long we had to wait for Season 5 and now there has been a further two year wait for Season 6. However, the good news is that, whereas for a while it did look like Season 5 was to be the last, Martin Clunes recently said that if Series 6 was well received then the show would continue. I would imagine that the script writers would not have any problem writing new stories for the gentle folk of Port Wenn almost indefinitely so hopefully Doc Martin will be with us for some time to come.

Doc Martin was formerly a successful surgeon in London before a phobia for blood drove him to his current position as GP in this sleepy Cornish village in the West of England. With a deadpan face and no apparent people skills, he is not well equipped to deal with the eccentric inhabitants. It is amazing how often a largely expressionless face speaks volumes! One wonders how the long suffering Louise manages to put up with him, but clearly she does as this series opens with them preparing at last for their wedding. However, as we might have expected, things on the day and subsequently run far from smoothly.

As in the last series, child minding arrangements for Baby James are an ongoing issue. This time the Doc falls out with the regular minder, and her temporary replacement does not prove to be entirely satisfactory. Meanwhile, when he is drafted in to take the baby to a mother and toddlers group, he does not seem to blend in very well! Neither does he endear himself with the unfortunate Louisa when he invites her school Chairman of Governors and wife around to dinner - it does not prove to be a perfect evening and this was one of the funnier episodes of the series.

We are always surprised at how much drama and comedy each segment contains! Series 6 was absolutely entertaining and the characters were true in their personalities but not predictable in their actions which keeps us shaking our heads when the predicaments they are met by continually build them another notch up! We just hope there will be a Series 7, put us down for it now! We want to visit Port Isaac and see all the charm in person! Thank you Writers, Producers and Actors and all the people behind the scenes for an addiction to Doc Martin!!!

I am a fan, and this Series did not disappoint me at all. I love the music theme, the actors are just so real, the camera job very fluid and giving you a sense of being there. In this Series, it is somewhat painful to see how social life is catching up with the good doctor, played so masterfully by Martin Clunes. I like also that we see how life in Europe is not so similar to our life here in North America, where there is more emphasis on living for appearances, and for consumption. It is seems more relaxed in this quaint village of Port Wren, where this Series is filmed.

Doc Martin is a very entertaining British series that has both drama and comedy. With the purchase of this I now have the whole 6 series from when it started back in 2004 to 2013 when the series ended. It is supposed to be restarted in March 2015 by the series main actor Martin Clunes. I have also found that all Doc Martin DVDs are of fantastic quality and Amazon does a great job of ensuring the products are delivered in a fast and secure way.

We loved watching the 1 through 5 series. The 6th series is just as entertaining. The various characters are so well developed, not just the main characters, either! Good entertainment for those who appreciate dry British humour and wit, with a dose of dysfunctional dark humour mixed in.

The discs and case arrived in perfect condition. The Series 6 discs are contained in a nice plastic case, with a cardboard sleeve.

This series is much darker, moody and serious than the earlier ones. Yes, it's still good, hence the 4 stars, but we found the plots were considerably less amusing and we especially didn't like the introduction of graphic scenes such as carotid arteries spurting blood all over Louisa because an old man had a piece of glass rip his throat open. There's already way too many sitcoms that thrive on graphic scenes such as this. Some of the plot lines still have the original humour running through them, but someone has apparently decided that we are yearning for more violence and "emergency room" situations, plus Martin going into deep depression because of his old problem with the sight of blood. Be assured that we are not interested in these plot lines.
All in all, Series 6 was somewhat a disappointment.
Oh yes, it didn't help that I ordered the series in Mid-December for use as a Christmas present for my wife, with the assurance it would be delivered well before the Day. However, it didn't arrive until approximately mid-April.
AFTER we had watched the series once a week on PBS. I suspect this was because the series couldn't be released until after regular TV had been able to run all episodes. Understandable from a marketing point of view, but rather useless as a Christmas gift.

My husband and I have been eagerly awaiting the release of Series 6. Doc Martin was broadcast in the fall in the UK and the dvd/blue ray version was first scheduled to be released in Canada December 10. I was so excited and ordered it as a birthday present for myself. We have loved, loved, loved all previous 5 series and turned friends on to the show as well.

Since pre-ordering in November, the Amazon release date for the series changed to January, then March, then May and now June. I have been so disappointed about having to wait. We decided to wait for the blue-ray because we wanted to watch the show in HD and, it seems, when the show FINALLY aired on Vision TV here in Canada it wasn't in HD. The scenery is so beautiful, we didn't want to spoil it by seeing it in regular tv formatting.

Consequently, we are still waiting to see the show and hope that the four changes to the release date does not dampen our enjoyment. I don't think I've found a show I've like better, though Gavin and Stacey is right up there too. If you haven't seen that fantastic show - do yourself a favour and find it.
