Book Description

Chicken Soup for the Soul meets Marley and Me…with a dash of The Right Stuff. Since 2008, an unlikely alliance of volunteer pilots and animal rescue enthusiasts has worked together to save thousands of death-row dogs by flying them to safe havens and better lives. Through two dozen stories—some heartrending, a few hilarious—Dog Is My Copilot tells the inspiring story of Pilots N Paws, America’s most unique and high-flying animal rescue organization.

Dog Is My Copilot tells the story of Pilots N Paws, a high-flying animal-rescue operation founded "accidentally" in 2008 when a private pilot offered to fly a mission of mercy to save an abused dog for a friend. Once on the ground, the pilot asked his friend if there was a big need to transport shelter animals from one part of the country to another. She responded, "You have no idea." Since that time, Pilots N Paws has grown to include thousands of pilots who have transported tens of thousands of "death-row dogs" (and a fair amount of cats and other animals), sometimes more than 1,000 miles away to new homes or no-kill shelters, where they have a much higher chance of adoption.

The true heart of Dog Is My Copilot are the 24 real-life rescue stories collected from pilots and their animal-rescue counterparts on the ground. The short, captivating stories are accompanied by more than 100 charming, poignant, color photos--most taken by the pilots themselves--of their canine passengers in flight.

Unexpected things can happen when dogs reach cruising altitude, and the stories in Dog Is My Copilot run the emotional range from hilarious to heart rending--but the endings are always happy. These dogs are the lucky ones, and most of the pilots will tell you that when they get on the plane, they know it. After all, waiting for them on the ground hundreds of miles away is a second chance at a happy life with a loving forever family.

Dog Is My Copilot--it's Chicken Soup for the Soul meets Marley and Me . . . with just a dash of The Right Stuff. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Pilots N Paws organization.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank You Dog Lovers for buying Patricks Book, Dog is my Copilot June 21 2012
By James Carney - Published on
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I have been a pilot for Pilots N Paws since the spring of 2009. I can tell you this, after flying around the world as an Airline Pilot, flying for Pilots N Paws has been some of the most rewarding flying I have ever done. However, we, the pilots have the easy job. It is the rescues who work around the clock to help save the defenseless who are the real HEROES. Please, go to your local Animal Shelter and offer to help. Remember, every Animal sitting in a shelter is there because of human neglect. Please, don't forget to spread the word, spay or neuter.
Please,,, Adopt from a shelter
From the bottom of my Heart,
Thank you!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wagging tails take to the sky. June 19 2012

If you've ever loved an animal, you owe it to yourself to get this book. True "tails" of pet rescue enabled by the wonderful pilots who share their time & love of flying to move pets of all kinds from the "jaws of danger" to the safety of rescues, fur-ever homes or shelters where they will eventually find a loving home. My only regret is that every story can't be told in this book~~but that's because they are too numerous & happening EVERY day. If you loved the book, then treat yourself to more stories of rescues by Pilots N Paws by checking out their site at [...]
You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Wagging Tails - this book is a winner! June 21 2012

If you have a heart you will love this book. Each animal's story is short, well written, and contains beautiful pictures of animals and their saviors. Some of the stories, those detailing cruelty to an innocent life, are difficult to imagine but, unfortunately, are reality. However, thanks to the dedicated shelter and rescue workers, foster parents and the volunteers of pilots N Paws, each story has a happy ending. I couldnt put the book down and when it ended I wanted more. It is amazing, and will restore your faith in people, to read of the time, efforts and money individuals will give to save the lives of these sweet animals. This beautiful book is a "must read" for every animal lover and for every person who has ever wondered "can just one person make a difference".
Note: Truth in writing. I am the mother of the pilot in the story "All Species Airway" and the loving mother of a delightful senior rescue dog.

I received my copy today and read it from cover to cover! What a wonderful tribute to Pilots N Paws and animal rescue! I enjoyed learning about the start and development of this group of dedicated pilots, and reading all the flight stories. Every dog or group of dogs' story was beautiful and touching, and some of them were quite funny. I loved the book's format and writing style and all the pictures of the dogs' journeys. Nice work Patrick Regan!! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 paws up! So uplifting and inspirational. Read and get involved! June 29 2012

Patrick spent countless hours researching this book and actually flying some of the transports. I know as one of my dogs "The Round-Tripper" was featured. I also have been involved directly with the shelters, pulling dogs, and coordinating and flying transports. This book tells it all - the emotional bonds, the love and support of all involved and of course the true heart throbs - the dogs and their perpetual, unconditional love. This book is a MUST READ for everyone - adults and children alike. If you don't own a dog - you need to experience the incredible bond. If you already own one, adopt another one - one that needs a loving, nurturing, forever home. Adopt from your local Animal Shelter, SPCA or Humane Society. Never adopt from a puppy mill. Spay and neuter. Save lives! THIS BOOK IS WONDERFUL!
