Product Description

The complete first season of the American sci-fi drama created by Joss Whedon. Eliza Dushku stars as Echo, a young woman who is part of a group of people known as 'Actives' or 'Dolls'. The Dolls are people who have had their personalities wiped clean in order to be imprinted with any number of new personas. They are then hired out for particular jobs, which can be anything from committing a crime to enacting a fantasy. Although the Dolls are all volunteers who have agreed to work for a period of five years, the organisation is highly illegal and under constant threat from Paul Ballard (Tahmoh Penikett), a federal agent who is determined to expose the Dollhouse and bring it down. Episodes comprise: 'Ghost', 'The Target', 'Stage Fright', 'Gray Hour', 'True Believer', 'Man On the Street', 'Echoes', 'Needs', 'Spy in the House of Love', 'Haunted', 'Briar House', 'Omega' and 'Epitaph One'.

The concept of this television show is brilliant, but also problematic. I think that this show would have stand a better chance without Eliza Dushku as the lead actress. I like her, but in my opinion she doesn't have enough of an "average girl" and/or "good girl" vibe to be the center of a television show like Jennifer Garner in Alias or Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Better yet, I think that Dollhouse would've lasted a while longer if the lead character would have been someone else than a doll. Someone with memories of her or his own existence. Let's face it; it's hard for people to identify with a character who doesn't have a personnality or has more than one in the same episode. We, the viewers, are suppose to feel sorry for someone who can't even feel anything. We are suppose to care for a girl who doesn't care about the situation she's in because she's not even aware of it. Even if when the show begins Echo starts to show bits and pieces of awareness; it's not enough.

Even if Dollhouse is not perfect and that I understand why it was cancelled, it's still worth your time. The themes that are discussed are something we rarely see on television. Some of the episodes are priceless and the potential that Dollhouse has will charm you.

This series did take a few episodes to set everything up, like the first hill on a roller-coaster, but when it explodes into the first twists and turns it is riveting! Eliza is beautiful but sometimes lacks a little luster; this is shielded, however, by the phenomenal supporting cast and characters around her.

As the season progresses you are drawn deeper and deeper into this world and begin to question your own ethics when faced with the possibilities of this technology. And the season finale? It has us all BEGGING for a second season.

A group of us have been addicted to this show from the beginning and have rescheduled our Friday nights around watching it - the story can't end there - there is still to much to tell!!!

Dollhouse had the potential to be the one brilliant show on fox. It could have been so much more but either out of lack of vision or plain network incompetance the show was canceled half way through season two. At the time I wrote this it was unclear if they would air the remaining 13 episodes that were filmed.

Right from the get go we are introduced to the mysterious Echo,Racing a Motor Cycle, Dancing up a storm with Prince charming untill she leaves for the evening , picked up in a Black minivan with no windows greeted by "its time for your treatment.

From there we are introduced to the doll house , a secure facility that houses volunteers who all have some kind of a past that eventually brings them here. While inactive they are as helpless as small children, loaded with the most basic of skills to live. However they are easily programed in "The Chair" to be horrific assasins, Ardent lovers, The Long lost spouce, The Cunning theif ..... all for a price .... Hotly persued by the FBI who denys its existance but still persues, the dolls play out a season and a half of fantastic gripping TV. Much Like Firefly grabbed you , so will the Dollhouse....

Dollhouse works so well, has a brilliant cast and a wondeful fantasy sci fi principle, the fools at the fox network sandbagged it with the death row spot of 10 o'clock on friday nights. Clearly they didnt want it to succeed. The second season showed real promise with PVR Ratings that doubled its viewing audience I think there needs to be some house cleaning at fox. If you have the choice , this one is best in blu ray to absorb the rich feel and sound that it encompasses.

At this price season one is a steal as it retails much Higher at big box and electronics retailers.

Praying For Another network to save the Dollhouse

Not sure if I would get any of the other season's the story lines were a bit repetative and the last one of the series was ODD. All the good stuff was in the trailer.

Weird show that got bumped around and ultimately died an early death.
If you like Eliza it's worth it, if you like weird TV give it a try.

Though Dollhouse took a while to get going, the last half of the season should not be missed and, well, you won't understand it without the first half. Eliza Dushku is gorgeous and fascinating to watch. The rest of the cast is also wonderful and keeps you guessing as the details unfold. If you are a Whedonverse fan, you will be happy to see some familiar faces. Whether you are a Whedon fan or not, this is a must-see.
