Donny Petersen has been educating motorcycle enthusiasts about Harley-Davidson bikes for years. Now, he has combined all his knowledge into a twelve-volume series masterpiece and this third book is one that every rider will treasure.

Petersen, who has studied privately with Harley-Davidson engineers and has spent thirty-six years working on motorcycles, is sharing all of his secrets! As the founder of Toronto's Heavy Duty Cycles in 1974, North America's premier motorcycle shop, the dean of motorcycle technology teaches about the theory, design, and mechanical aspects of Harleys. In this third volume, discover:

  • How to identify the Evolution models
  • Why the Evolution models are better
  • Everything you need to know about engines
  • Troubleshooting virtually everything
  • And so much more!
Petersen provides workable solutions for whatever ails the 1984 to 2000 Evolution motorcycle. Graphics, pictures, and charts guide readers on a sure-footed journey to Harley happiness. It's all from a man who has ridden hundreds of Harleys across four continents - all while doing his own roadside repairs. He shares his expert knowledge and secrets in Donny's Unauthorized Technical Guide to Harley-Davidson, 1936 to Present.

5.0 out of 5 stars Donny does it again. Aug 30 2010
Format:Paperback
For those of you who have never read the authors books before, you are in for a real treat.
Gone is the usual format of boring technical information that could have been drawn from the manufacturer's own service manual. What you have here is an author that can entwine his years of 'hands-on' expertise and experience working on these engines into a colourful read on just about everything Evolution you can imagine. You will find yourself immersed in reading about the original question you may be looking for and end up going past that and reading even more. The book draws you in. Donny does this by his style of writting, by telling the mechanical facts tied in with real world experience. A totally enjoyable read and certainly chock full of answers to any of you out there who have these types of engines in your rides. Highly recommened.

4.0 out of 5 stars Donny's HD technicals Volume III Evolution Mar 31 2010
By R. P. J. Dijk - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This week I received the new book Donny wrote for us Harley enthousiasts who never can get enough of Harley insight details. Already the third volume of another 9 to come. A book loaded with harley tech details and I'm sure required even more time to gather that info and sort it out to put in a nice readable book. I first scanned the contents and saw many detailed tabels on the wide variety of specs. I trust them to be precice and therefore such a book is valuable for not only tech die-hards but also historians who want to read the real story behind it all. It also must have been a hell of a job to get all that correct. Also here I trust Donny to give the most right inside data. To be short: this book will give another big happy timespending the months ahead of me and I will expand a great deal on the already known info I gathered the last 25 years on the Evolution V2.
Only one reason to not have qualified for all the rating stars: please Donny and publisher, get rid of the (too) small lettertype and small space between the lines. I guess that one or two bucks more for a bit more paper and pages won't kill us, even in this harsh times. That would make the book even more readable and therefore enjoyable, just like Volume II. I hope you'll find a way of getting that right for the next pieces to come. Please cary on the good work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outrageous Feb 28 2013
By Brian V Bonini - Published on Amazon.com

Donny is an intelligent and creative thinker with YEARS of experience behind everything he says and it shows in this (and the whole series of) book(s). Even if you're not a wrench looking for technical how-to info the history lesson alone is worth the price of admission.

If you want to know EVERYTHING Harley, and I mean EVERYTHING, I think only Willie himself could tell you more (and I'm not even sure about that - Donny might very well know more).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great wealth of knowledge in an OK written book Nov 29 2012
By G. Zimmerman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
A must have book if you work on Harley EVO motors. I just purchased a '96 dyna and wanted to know everything I can about it. This book is a powerhouse of information in a not-so-well organized and written book.

Pluses: Knowledge, facts, charts, year-to-year differences in models, how and why Harley made changes over the years, anecdotes, Harley history, info on harley evolution through the different generations of motors (pan, knuckle, shovel, evo, twincam, etc).

Minuses: Not the best organized book. A lot of the information is taken from articles that he writes for "American Iron" magazine, therefore there is a lot of repetition if you read the book straight through. Could use more pictures, although there are some.

Overall, it's worth the $40 and it'll sit on my bookshelf next to the factory service and parts manuals.
