Book Description

Jan 18 2011

Donny Petersen offers workable solutions for whatever ails your 1999-topresent Harley-Davidson. Graphics, pictures, and charts guide the reader on a sure-footed journey to a thorough understanding of the H-D Twin Cam.

Petersen's insight makes technical issues understandable-even for the motorcycle novice. In easy-to-understand language, he examines what's right, what's wrong, and what's "just okay" about the Twin Cam power train.

Volume I: The Twin Cam is the updated first volume of Petersen's long-awaited Donny's Unauthorized Technical Guide to Harley-Davidson, 1936 to Present series. This twelve-volume series by the dean of motorcycle technology examines the theory, design, and practical aspects of all things Harley-Davidson.

Having ridden hundreds of H-D Flatheads, Knuckleheads, Pans, Shovels, Evos, and Twin Cams across four continents-and doing all of his own roadside repairs-he has acquired a wealth of firsthand practical knowledge that he now shares. He dispenses streetwise tips and walks readers through detailed service procedures-including everything from porting and polishing cylinder heads to performing simple maintenance, like oil changes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Content excellent, but print is way too small Jan 18 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The content of this book is excellent. Highly detailed and technical for those who really want to understand the history, the weak spots and what the motor company has been doing to solve the issues over the years. Donny is one about the most knowledgeable writers on the subject of HD motors I have ever read. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that I bought the hard cover version, and the book is physically very thick (almost 700 pages and packed with content), but the page size is only slightly larger than 1/2 sheet of normal letter size paper and the font is so small I struggle to read this without a magnifing glass. For me it takes away a lot of the enjoyment of reading it. This is the very first book I have ever had to use a magnifying glass to read. Great book, but would have been better printed on normal letter size format.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Read - Repetitive Jun 19 2012
By Qmann - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased this on Kindle. Lot's of useful information. I was really looking for more "hands on" and "how to" information with product suggestions. The book repeats it's self numerous times thru out the reading. You will have a deep knowledge of the MOCO and twin cam history and issues after the read, just don't expect this book to be a step by step guide for an engine build or other modifications.

By Dale J. Ianni - Published on Amazon.com

This is a wonderful gold mine of facts and details regarding Harley-Davidson motorcycles. If you are a Harley enthusiast or even just a motorcycle enthusiast and want to know about the inner workings of motorcycles this is a great resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best. Sep 21 2012
By Richard J. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Donny Peterson is one of the best technical writers for those who love to work on their own Harley Davidson Motorcycles. His writing is easy to understand and geared towards the average Harley owner with an average budget, not the Orange County Chopper owner. This book is very similar to his monthly Techline column in American Iron Magazine. This book is about 450 pages and covers most things that you would come across. There are a fair amount of pictures and diagrams but not like a shop manual. This is a must have book even if you don't work on your own bike but just to understand what it is that you want to have done to your bike.
