Do you ever wonder what contributes and supports much of the modern day sickness(es), terminal illness? This book is wonderful and easy to understand as to why dairy does more harm than good. A physician a book written by a physician. I always sound like a broken record when it comes to not drinking cow's milk. Now I purchase this book and give it as a gift.

This book provides vital information that contradicts the widely misguided premise that milk does a body good. More people need to read and listen to the data that confirms the fact that Milk products are terrible for humans to consume. Milk is causing huge problems for consumers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dont Drink your Milk! Review - Good points but full of other misconceptions as well, Sep 23 2011
By E. ROUMELIOTOU - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Don't Drink Your Milk (Paperback)
First, I want to say that I agree with this book, cow's milk is not good for humans and it can cause many pathological conditions and many chronic diseases in the long run. Dr Oski has massive experience in pediatrics and all the information he gives concerning the infants and children cases are excellent. Also, some of the research he mentions later in the book seem to be valid although no references whatsoever are given to double check. However, this is where the good things stop with this book because Dr Oski, although he is an expert in pediatrics and has seen many cases proving the disastrous impact of cow's milk in infants in his clinic, he is completely wrong when he associates milk and its fats with atherosclerosis.

Many pioneer doctors now recognize that the lipid theory for atherosclerosis is inconsistent with the clinical observations, has many gaps and faults that fail to provide a coherent explanation of how exactly cholesterol and lipids cause this disease. Dr Kilmer McCully,a researcher from Harvard Medical School, has published a massive research about atherosclerosis. In fact he has been trying to convince his fellow doctors since 1965 about the insanity of the lipid mode but he has been mocked and ignored despite the valid proof and data he provided. He correctly identified homocysteine, imbalanced protein metabolism and specific nutrient deficiencies (that block the livers ability to metabolize toxic homocysteine) with atherosclerosis. As of September 2011, many recent publications found that elevated homocysteine is closely related to atherosclerosis, a lot more than cholesterol ever was. What Dr Olski fails to see here is that this is another medical myth supported from another big industry, the oils/lipids/fats manufacturers. It is irresponsible to recommend margarine instead of milk, as a healthy fat alternative; margarine is highly toxic, 100% processed food that throws your metabolism off the window. Like the milk industry, these people have done their fair share in manipulating people's and doctors' approach to atherosclerosis. Needless to say that pharmaceutical companies producing the cholesterol lowering drugs (statins), have made billions and billions out of this deliberate confusion (its always better to think that you have to take expensive, full of side-effects and useless drugs instead of cheap over the counter nutrients to fix your nutritional deficiency, right?). I believe that the author (hopefully in his ignorance) helps to perpetuate a very dangerous myth (cholesterol, fats and statin drugs) here, while dissolving another (milk). Dr Kilmer McCully's mostly excellent book can explain more about this fascinating myth and how we have all been fooled (The Heart Revolution: The Extraordinary Discovery That Finally Laid the Cholesterol Myth to Rest by Kilmer McCully and Martha McCully). Another excellent book from an enlightened doctor: The Cholestrol Myths: Exposing the Fallacy That Saturated Fat and Cholesterol Cause Heart Disease by Uffe Ravnskov.

The other point I want to mention concerns the milk industry and the pasteurization/ homogenization standards. The circumstances that imposed these procedures have absolutely nothing to do with public health of course. The author mentions that these standards fail to produce a hygienic milk anyway, due to the mass production practices, and that the potential nutritional value of processed milk is significantly lower, but fails to say that homogenization and pasteurization were actually imposed so that the milk companies can have absolute control of every single independent farmer, control the market and drive the prices as high as they want. I think that such a perspective would be useful in a book about milk. Best Book: The untold story of milk.

The author briefly mentions that fermented milk products are a lot safer for consumption. Even some people with lactose intolerance can consume such foods. However, total silence follows concerning these products, which by the way can be made at home super cheap and easy. Fermented products have been used for thousands of years in traditional societies. It seems that people of the old knew what we are only now discovering again, that fermenting milk is far safer than drinking it as it is. Best Book: "Wild Fermentation: The Flavor, Nutrition, and Craft of Live-Culture Foods

I also find it quite irresponsible from a doctor of such a position and status to even recommend grains and cereals for children, along with fruits and vegetables. Grains are as allergenic as milk, cause a great deal of digestive problems and many serious chronic autoimmune diseases as well. Again, this is another industry that promotes their products as healthy, just like the milk industry. The role of the milk nurse here plays the dietician who is led to believe that whole grains must be part of a healthy diet. however, just like milk, these products can be safely consumed just like they have been for thousands of years if they are soaked first. Hands down the best book for this topic: "Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook That Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats" by Sally Fallon.
