Seven inch vinyl pressing of the first single pulled from the bespectacled Seattle songstress' 2007 album Saltbreakers. Features 'Don't Lose Yourself' plus 'Bright Glittering Gifts'. Nonesuch.

One of the best songs I've heard this year.Aug. 15 2007

And I'm not even a major indie fan. I like the stuff most of the time, it's just not what I'm most likely to be found listening to at any given moment most of the time.
But this song...wow. I don't know what makes it so special, but it's really great and I like it a lot. Up there with the Arcade Fire's "Intervention", Marillion's "The Other Half", and The Besnard Lakes' "Because Tonight" for best new song release of 2007 so far behind most of Rush's SNAKES & ARROWS album tracks, I'd say.
And I have no idea what the song is about because the lyrics are more imagist poeticism than cohesive storytelling. Oddly enough, that isn't even a drawback. But maybe I've just been listening to too much Radiohead lately.
