Product Description

Review

"Doodle Stitching is a truly cute book...full of practical and whimsical projects that are neither boring or stodgy.... The projects section of Doodle Stitching shows how to make so many ordinary items special, such as pillow cases, skirts, shoes, shirts, scarves, boxer shorts and napkins. For those that like to take their creativity and sewing skills that little bit further, there are small projects to make and embroider,... This is a good book for beginner embroiderers that would like a fun place to start, for more experienced embroiderers that might have become a bit jaded with more traditional patterns and could do with some light inspiration, and for anyone that likes to look at well-designed craft books full of cute projects."--Whipup.net

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, great book!, Aug 27 2008

I've got this book for myself and it's a great book. I've always done a little embroidery but I was self-taught and needed some challenge and inspiration. This was perfect. A dozen basic stitches are explained and projects are simply beautiful. They're simple, yet artsy. Everything is detailed (color no., stitch used for each detail in the project) and there is some amazing stuff - projects we don't think about doing with embroidery. The colors chosen are beautiful and the embroidery design are very fashionable. But most of all, it gives you a lot of inspiration and confidence to doodle.
I recommend it strongly for those of you who want something fresh and new and need some inspiration..

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stitch Diagrams, Feb 10 2008

This review is from: Doodle Stitching: Fresh & Fun Embroidery for Beginners (Paperback)
I got this book along with Jenny Hart's Stitch it Kit and her book Sumblime stitching. Doodle Stitching by far has the clearest diagrams of each stitch, complete with instructions and photograph of what each stitch looks like completed. The book is bright and glossy with clear photographs. I wasn't sure if I should give it 4 or 5 stars because I haven't tried any of the projects because as a pure beginner I find some of them are completely out of my league in their difficulty or complexity. These projects would interest to someone who is already comfortable with stitching. Right now I use it as my main resource on how to make each stitch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Inspiring, Aug 11 2009

I'm an art student and when I saw this book I was intrigued with the idea of "doodling with stitches."

I ordered it and I'm so glad I did! I've never really experimented with embroidery before so I am a total newb. I know how to knit and I've tried cross stitching (which was too boring for me) so I have some background in textiles. The book is super cute with some awesome projects that are not too "old school" or traditional. Love the way the book is layed out with some very inspiring artwork, I also love that it encourages you to step out of the box by utilizing traditional embroidery stitches in a new contemporary way. With this book you can truly experience embroidery with your own personal flair!

In terms of learning the stitches I could have used more pictures/drawings in the how'to section. But there are plenty of online alternatives (literally!) and if you're a visual person like me try this link to help out with some more of the intermediate stitches.

[...]

It's a must-have supplement to anyone learning embroidery.
