Product Description

Product Description

Yeah, Kim Deal made a big splash of her own, and Frank Black is still holding his own. But as any Pixies fan will tell you, and as Doolittle suggests (like "ten million pounds of sludge" to the head), the Pixies rocked harder than the sum of their parts. They were masters of dynamics (check out "Monkey Gone to Heaven," or "Hey"), moving from quietly subdued to all-out head-banging and back before you could say "la la love you." Black Francis was one of the most unique vocal stylists of the '80s. His duets with bassist Deal, "I Bleed" and "Silver," work the way Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong worked together. And it's still staggering how much Joey Santiago, lead guitarist, could accomplish with one simple, single note. "Here Comes Your Man," by the way, is as straightforwardly poppy as the Pixies ever got, so enjoy it. --Dan Leone

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite Frankly...One Of The Best Albums I've Ever Come Across, April 15 2004

Jo (Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Doolittle (Audio CD)
Wow. I started off with Surfer Rosa, but the day I bought Doolittle, my life changed forever, and I became a diehard Pixies fan, as did everybody in my family. Now I've passed this round my friends a bit, and each and every one of them have all ended up loving it to bits, and quite rightly. Because this album is purely superb.

Debaser - a brilliant opener. Amazingly catchy, everyone will be singing 'un chien andalusia' in seconds! 9.5/10
Tame - not as brilliant as its predecessor, but still pretty damn good! 9/10
Wave Of Mutilation - One of my favourites on the album. A fantastic song 10/10
I Bleed - Lovely harmonies, an all-round great choon. 10/10
Here Comes Your Man - The song that got me into the Pixies, and I still love it today. 10/10
Dead - Slightly weaker than those surrounding it, but all the same, it's good! 8/10
Monkey Gone To Heaven - Superb. Just superb. What a masterpiece of a song. 10/10
Mr. Grieves - A weird song, unusually catchy. 8.5/10

Crackity Jones - A partyish song, I wanna jump about when I hear this! 9.5/10
La La Love You - A really pretty song. I like this song more and more as I hear it. 10/10
No. 13 Baby - A really cool song, but not one of the strongest on the album. 8.5/10
There Goes My Gun - I really really like this one, one of my favourites on the album. 10/10
Hey - A really really pretty song. 9.8/10
Silver - Probably the weakest song on the album. 7/10
Gouge Away - My utter favourite. A fantastic song. 20/10

So please, I really urge you to buy it. It's not just an album, its an investment and an explanation of self-discovery.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best, April 5 2004
By
This review is from: Doolittle (Audio CD)
I've listened to this album on and off for several years and it still moves me. The creativity is unmatched. You won't hear this style of music anywhere else because its one of a kind. If you like your drinks strong and your music stronger, then try this. You won't be disappointed.
