Solid Release,

This review is from: Doomsday Machine (Audio CD)
There are good and bad things in this album. Good include the many solo's(which are awesome), and the extreme brutality and speed. On the other hand, the lyrics and music got slightly repetetive. I would say that this is a solid release but not their best. Here is a track by track analysis:-ENTER THE MACHINE: The first of two instrumentals. Good opener with a steady and fresh melody which doesnt stray from the heaviness but still delivers a fresh and original sound.9/10 -TAKING BACK MY SOUL: Starts with a quick drum beat and then is intertwined with guitar, which leads into a quick solo, and then leads on with the mindblowing vocals of Angela Gossow(SO HOT!!!)8/10 -NEMESIS:So amazing. One of the best Arch Enemy songs out there. Fast paced and filled with rage, it is a ferocious and original track.10/10 -MY APOCALYPSE: Starts off with a slow, steady beat, and then gets off track somehow and spins off into a strange melody.7/10 -CARRY THE CROSS: Starts with a wicked lick and then it slows down and you are hit with creepy, apocalyptic growls, which eventually conspire into an overall wicked tune.10/10 -I AM OUT LEGEND- OUT FOR BLOOD:Unique riff to start things off and soon turns into an angry, frothing track which is has some very good, fast parts throughout.8.5/10 -SKELETON DANCE:Fades into a heavy fast, crunching riff which shows off the incredible guitar skills of this band. The vocals in this track are quite good and this is another quality track.8.5/10 -HYBRIDS OF STEEL:The 2nd intrumental on this CD. Has a different style of melody for this band but even it is surprisingly turned into a decent piece of music.7.5/10 -MECHANIC GOD CREATION: This sounds very familiar to the slayer track 'Seasons in the Abyss'. This is probably my favorite track on the album. Intense guitar work and the insane growls combine to make an extremely brutal, yet delicate song that will bring joy with every listen.15/10 -MACHTKAMPF: Starts with a high paced drum/guitar melody which is entwined with wicked screams, and then transforms into an incredibly catchy and heavy tune, and, along with the vocals, make for a good listen.10/10 -SLAVES OF YESTERDAY:Begins with a simple guitar riff and is joined with a partial solo, and then it breaks down into a thrashy, crunching riff that sounds f*ckin great to me.10/10 If i could i would give it 4.5 stars but its not a 5 so i can't lie to people. If you like heavy metal such as slayer, slipknot, trivium, shadows fall, amon amarth, or are just another arch enemy fan, then definitely make this one of your next purchases.

Accessible, powerful Death Metal,
By
This review is from: Doomsday Machine (Audio CD)
Closed minded fools have already shrugged off DOOMSDAY MACHINE as nothing more than an attempt at more mainstream success by Arch Enemy. Nothing could be further from the truth, as the very notion of Death Metal sharing mainstream success is as far-fetched as Nickelback having actual talent. It is true that Arch Enemy tried to take things in a more decisive direction with this album. It is not as frantically passionate as WAGES OF SIN, nor is it as tooth and nail as ANTHEMS OF REBELLION, but it is a great example of what happens when great songwriting is married to such a ruthless form of music as Death Metal. The album is packed with sure fire hits such as 'Nemesis,' the metal equivalent of a runaway freight train, 'My Apocalypse' a definite death metal anthem, and the blatantly violent 'I Am Legend, Out For Blood', all of which proving that Arch Enemy haven't lost their fangs. Angela Gossow's brutal vocals are multi-layered and harmonized, giving her a bit of an artificial edge, but they are vitally important to the edginess of the album. Michael Amott is in peak performance here, and his guitar work shows no signs of slowing down as he brings his Megadeth influences to the table with great clarity and drive. His brother Christopher is a perfect match, and the two play off of each other with almost instinctual rhythm and performance. As always, Daniel Erlandsson is an absolutely top notch drummer, speeding around his drumset while crafting some truly memorable patterns. One of the finest metal drummers, bar none. The album benefits from the experienced hand of producer/mixer Andy Sneap, who puts as much care and balance into the album as any of his other metal contributions. The album rages in all the right places, and thankfully the guitars do NOT sit in front of the drums; a lesson that EVERY metal producer needs to learn (not to mention Dave Mustaine). It packs a bit less punch than ANTHEMS OF REBELLION however, one of the few albums that successfully rattled my car windows without succumbing to screeching and tearing. This wonderful mixing was tossed out the window with Arch Enemy's next album, RISE OF THE TYRANT, which put guitars in the forefront of everything, and cranked the volume to 11, creating a mass of noise whenever it was turned up too loud against a subwoofer. WAGES OF SIN, ANTHEMS OF REBELLION and DOOMSDAY MACHINE are the golden trio of Arch Enemy albums that balanced great songwriting with superb studio quality. I'm not quite crazy about the new direction the band has taken, but we'll see if they stick to their guns, or try to smooth out their newfound wrinkles as time progresses. Despite it all, DOOMSDAY MACHINE is a must have.

Arch Enemy's Doomsday Machine is melodic, moody and haunting and overall, an excellent metal album. Arch Enemy is a death metal from Sweden in the vein of Unleashed. Arch Enemy has created their masterpiece. It's a great album and worth listening to again and again.
