5.0 out of 5 stars Overfield has opened a door to endless romance., Feb 28 1998

Joan Overfield has created a masterpiece--a real page turner! With the creation of the time portal in the pentagram room she has opened up a number of possibilities of future time travel and romances between the principal and secondary characters. She continues in this vein with Time's Tapestry. Let's hope that there are adventures coming from the five-sided room!

3.0 out of 5 stars average time travel romance, April 28 2010
By L. B. Taylor - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Door Ajar (Paperback)
Closer to 2 1/2 stars, The Door Ajar is the first of two time travel regency romances. Overall I'd rate it an average read at best. I thought maybe it being a regency would be interesting but it did just the opposite. It was hard to imagine a woman taking to the present, so quickly, believable. This story had a somewhat interesting premise: an 'evil room' with a past. Our heroine Miranda is from the ton traveling forward to the present rather than back in time and our hero Alec diffuses bombs. Unfortunately, the hero seemed unusually dim for a law officer and controlling even for an alpha-male romance hero. Granted he was trying to protect her but I would have loved to see him coming off not quite as loud and rude. Ms. Overfield did a good job showing Alec's angst having lost someone he loved but the romance between he and Miranda was stilted.

In addition, the writing was sometimes difficult to follow. I figured out who the bad person was too soon. The speed at which the story unfurled seemed uneven and there are unanswered questions that I am hoping will be solved when I read 'Time's Tapestry', the second book.

All in all this book was OK but there's nothing in it to separate it from the huge stack of similar books in the time travel romance genre. If you want something with this theme that is a more believable TT romance try Marlys Milhiser's THE MIRROR.

Now that it's all over, what did you really do yesterday that's worth mentioning? ~Coleman Cox

5.0 out of 5 stars A Keeper for my shelves., May 3 2010
By It's "Nunyabisnis" - Published on Amazon.com

I loved this book. I read the first book Times' Tapestry and liked it OK. This book had a touch of humor I thought added to a modern woman thrown back through time and dealing with the customs of the day. I won't go into detail of the story, but there is an aunt who is asked to help her adjust to the time period and the interaction is hilarious in a few places, but it isn't one of those cute-sy tongue & cheek books. I have re-read this again on vacation & overall a good time travel romance worth considering.
