Product Description

Product Description

As fans rejoice over the Cars' first new studio album in decades ( Move Like This ), this reissue brings back the unfairly neglected LP that closed their original period: 1987's Door to Door . The Ocasek/Orr dynamic and Easton/Hawkes riffs that made the Cars the Cars shine as you hear the hits You Are the Girl; Strap Me In; Coming Up You , and more. Newly remastered, back on CD!

3.0 out of 5 stars door to door not so bad after all Aug 3 2007
By Andy
Format:Audio CD
when I heard the lead single "You are the girl" when first released
I thought the cars were becoming somewhat of a parody it sounded worn
I still don't like the song
but there are plenty of good songs despite the albums somewhat weak moments
opening cut "Leave or stay" and "Tao Tao Wayo Wayo"actuall very old cars numbers brought up to date
the Ocasek sung moody "Fine line"
and the country tinged Ben sung "Everything you say"
are particularlly good
the poppy "Strap me in"
as well the heaviest song the cars ever recorded
the title track "Door To Door"
(including some great double bass drumming by Dave Robinson)
"Go away" is another infectious song
"Double trouble" is very eighties rock that is cars metal

The Cars may have started to chug slightly at this point
Yet this album is alot better overall then the critics gave it credit for
and it does rock alot more then "heartbeat city"

2.0 out of 5 stars The rust is setting in May 30 2004
Format:Audio CD
Oh hell, what happened here. This would not be a bad addition to the collection for reved up cars fans, but lacks the sound we came to know the group for. Worth nothing more then a $1 bargain at the local record fair, the only song that brings the group to their trusted synth-rock style is "you are the girl". "Double trouble" seems to be a left over jamming session from "Heartbeat city", with some selling potential as a single, but sounds too raw. Would have been nice if they given it some more production work. "Fine line" was a shellow effort which somewhat reminded me of a Leonard Cohen song, but without the soulful texture. Most of the album sounds nothing more then some inferior noise, like the group no longer having that magical desire. Not worth the effort of re-buying on cd.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Door To Door", then no more. Dec 8 2003
By H3@+h
Format:Audio CD
I don't know why this album often gets dismissed, I know it's one of their weaker ones, but it's still good. Any fan of 1980's pop-rock should like some of it, and any fan of "Heartbeat City" should like most of it. "You Are The Girl" is the only real hit here, and though the first half of the album is good, the second half (or side two) is better. "Strap Me In" is a strong "Cars" rocker, and both "Coming up You" and "Wound Up On You" are good and catchy soft-pop tracks. Then "Door To Door" slams the album shut with a bang. Overall, it might not be as classic as the debut, but at this point, these "Cars" had alot of mileage.

3.0 out of 5 stars AN OK CD FROM A GREAT BAND/ GRADE C
The Cars ended their great run, with an ok cd. If this cd had been released before HEARTBEAT CITY, it would have seen like a stronger cd, but H. CITY was just a super strong cd. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars In with a bang, out with a dud
Door to Door is really sad, and I mean that in the pajorative sense. This CD is creatively bankrupt and sub-par. I love the Cars and I think they were a cool band. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Last one for a reason
The Cars were spent by the time this came out. Their time had passed, and their music was stale. I was as much a Cars fan as anyone, but this one was painful to listen to. Read more
