I ordered this item only to discover that it is abridged. This has happened to me before because the abridged /unabridged status of a recording is not always clearly indicated, AS IT SHOULD BE. I love this series and expect this book to be a good as the rest, but I want it in UNABRIDGED format.

I was pleased to be able to read this latest novel of Alexander McCall Smith, who makes the country of Botswana and its people, especially Precious, the No. Lady Detective, and her assistant, most appealing. Her philosphy and common sense are refreshing. I love all the regular characters, and I am always sorry get to the last page of each volume. Hope there are more of her adventures forthcoming.

Even though it was an abridged version, these African characters shine through brightly, their flaws and weird character traits becoming endearing as the story goes on. What a kind place at heart! What a kind, wise and wonderful woman from the No 1 ladies' detective agency!

Maybe because I grew up in South Africa, I understand all the hidden fear for animals and the always available helping hands.

Thoroughly enjoyable.
