Product Description

Look ma, no script! As expected from a movie by Hong Kong action director Hark Tsui, there are many explosive, fast-paced sequences in this Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle. Some are thrilling, others inconsequential. There is also another mumbling, overdone performance by Mickey Rourke, who looks as if he performed his own plastic surgery. Except for an unintentionally humorous ending, the only surprise is Dennis Rodman as Van Damme's partner in exploitation. Rodman has plenty of charisma, but needs someone to weed out those inferior scripts. He plays an eccentric arms dealer coerced by an avenging Van Damme into tracking down the evil and sadistically weird character played by a well-muscled Rourke. It says little for the production that the best sequence of the movie occurs a quarter of the way into the action. It concerns an escape by Van Damme from an island think tank for forcibly retired covert agents. After that, everyone should have gone home. --Rochelle O'Gorman

3.0 out of 5 stars An average slam dunk for Van Damme Jan. 26 2012
By Robert Badgley TOP 100 REVIEWER
Double Team(released April/97)stars Jean Claude Van Damme as a secret counter terrorist expert Jack Quinn,Dennis Rodman as an Antwerp arms dealer called Yaz,and Mickey Rourke as their nemesis,a terrorist named Stavros.Rodman was the one colourful member of the Chicago Bulls three-star unbeatable scoring line, along with Scotty Pippen and the legendary Michael Jordan.Rodman was frequently in the news for his bad boy behaviour and flamboyant dress, the latter much in view in this movie.During his recent dedication into the Basketball Hall of Fame,Rodman, tearfully looking back on his career, said that his outside persona was,for the most part, only a front. This movie has many, many references to his ball playing days and were much more relevant to viewing audiences back when this film was released, but they haven't worn well with age, especially to a newer generation that may not be as familiar with The Bulls and Rodman as others may be.And unfortunately his lines, along with Rodman's stiffness in the acting department, doesn't enhance the movie along one bit.Rourke pulls in a good, dark and moody performance as Stavros and works well off of Van Damme.
The opening finds Jack Quinn,a member of a secretive counter terrorist outfit, having to steal a shipment of plutonium bound for Iraq from some Romanians.Three years later he is living the good life with his wife in a beautiful villa when the organization, that he apparently had walked away from three years prior, comes a-calling again. This time it is personal as his old nemesis Stavros is back and they have the perfect plan to take him down, for the perfect man to do it.Quinn reluctantly agrees to the job which is to ambush Stavros at a carnival.

1.0 out of 5 stars Should use Steven Segal or Jackie Chan Oct. 30 2010
Even though this action movie shouldnot have Dennis Rodman because he is not an action person. He is a basketball player like Michael Jordan. I think either Steven Segal or Jackie Chan should team up with Jean Claude Van Damme. A box office disaster for this action star.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rodman? What did he do do throw basketballs? April 29 2004
Naw, Jean-claude could have done this movie by himself. Rodman needs to stick to basketball.

one of the worst Van Damme movies of all time, this one and Derailed and Replicant and Knock Off, come of Van Damme baby, make good ones and have good directors too. this one has Van Damme after Mickey Rourke who Rourke ends up killing him or he thinks he killed him, then Van Damme goes to an island of lost dead agents and villians(corny). he escapes retardedly and then goes back to save his wife and his up and coming child(who Van Damme and Rodman almost indanger the poor kid, bastards). Van Damme gets help from puke and choke Rodman and they have awesome adventures and eat lots of candy, no wait, thats what I was thinking and then, no. but there's some, I SAID SOME, good action, but then it dies and sits there. the end with an oiled up shirtless Rourke and the tiger lets the suspense and action down. strickly for fans of the movies Van Damme was crappy in. this is repuked up snot on a seseame seed bun

3.0 out of 5 stars OH NO! It's Van Damme and Rodman. July 21 2003
Format:VHS Tape
Jean-Claude Van Damme joins forces with basketball player/wrestler/entertainer Dennis Rodman (sans wedding dress) in his acting debut. What's next? Steven Seagal and Ja Rule? Oh nevermind.
This movie marked the end of Van Damme's run as a box-office champion and thankfully stopped Rodman's acting career before it even started. All in all, this movie is actually pretty good. Well, at least the action sequences courtesy of Hong Kong director Tsui Hark are. The actors are terrible except for Mickey Rourke who is as always "too cool for school".

5.0 out of 5 stars Double the [fun] May 20 2003
By M.C
Van Damme and Dennis Rodman in an action movie? Hell Yeah!! Van Damme palys Quinn, the top anti-terrorist of the U.S., who inadvertendly kills the son of super-terrorist Stavros(Mickey rourke), and is sent to an anti-terrorists retirement home as punishment by his superiors. He escapes to reunite with his wife and son, but soon discovers that Stavros has kidnapped them both in a bid for revenge against Quinn. Quinn joins forces with arms dealer Yaz (Dennis Rodman) to rescue his family and defeat the vengeful Stavros. Van Damme is just as quick and powerful as he ever was in this film,Rourke is a nasty bad guy, and Dennis Rodman balances between comic relief and noble hero. It's got all the kung fu action you'd ask out of an action thriller, and is just a fun time at the movies.
