Thank God for This Book!,

This review is from: Down Came The Rain (Paperback)
What an amazing book! To think that I went through 2 years of post-partum and no one helped me. Any one who has a baby and is feeling down should read this! Even if you don't want to buy it or cannot afford it, get it from the library! It helped me so much! I am not crazy and neither is Brook!

When I first heard about Brooke's book, I was heartened, that someone of note was out there writing a high profile book about it, that the world would see and take note of. Her courage and willingness to share and to help is a big beam of sunshine.I listened to the book on cd, and I enjoyed getting to know her and hear her tell her tale herself. I expected to be bawling buckets repeatedly through the listening, but found it actually not that depressing to listen to. It is very rational and realistic, told from the perspective and strength of afterwards, with maturity and level headedness. I appreciated hearing her experience, of something that is taboo in our culture, and was even more so 10 years ago. Bravo to Brooke for speaking out. I think also it would help any expectant mother to know about this, that it might happen (it happens to one in ten mothers), and knowing about it may prevent it from happening. Doctors and nurses take note, please watch and care for your new mothers, as well as the babies.

The Star Talks Of Reality,
By A Customer
This review is from: Down Came Rain (Hardcover)
I have to give her high praise for having both guts and courage to write this all telling memoir. For her to want to give back to society in writing this book about her time in dealing with something that is so hush hush...PPD. I know this book will help so many to understand what is happening to them and possibly keep them from letting it go to far. Bravo to you Ms. Shields for this honest and well written book. Also recommended: A Paper Life and Nightmares Echo
