Another excellent entry into the "History & Hauntings Series" by Troy Taylor.
If you love the history that goes with a haunted site then you'll love every one of these books.
Troy Taylor makes sure to not just recite the lore behind hauntings. He is meticulous with his research and rarely leaves a pebble unturned. His descriptions weave a mental picture in the readers mind.
His story of camping alone near one suspected haunted mine was chilling. He also gives directions to visit these haunted areas for yourself.
Readers who expected less history could have just read the book title (Down in the Darkness: The Shadowy History of America's Haunted Tunnels, Mines & Caverns) to find what the book contained. Me being a fan of both History and the Supernatural makes this book a must read.
I also recommend Field Guide to Haunted Graveyards and Beyond the Grave: The History of America's Most Haunted Graveyards and the collaborative book with Len Adams So, There I Was....
