This review is from: Dr. Buzzard's Original "Savannah'' Band (Audio CD)
Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band had a great sound and their music remains enjoyable today. Fans of disco mixed with swing and Latin influences--not to mention retro music--will delight in this album. It's not long enough nor is it a definitive compilation of their songs, but what we do get is high quality throughout! The CD opens with a strong number called "I'll Play The Fool." The percussion, brass and the number's steamy quality made this quite a hit! Cory Daye sings of how she wants her "equivalency diploma" to catch the guy she wants. The group harmonizes to perfection and Cory's backup vocalists never miss a beat. "I'll Play The Fool" has style, substance and these days a wonderful nostalgic quality that endears you to this ballad. The musical special effects are quite something. Cory Daye sings passionately of how much she wants the man she loves. Great! "Cherchez La Femme/Se Si Bon" is clearly a major highlight of this album; I remember how much airplay this number got when it first came out! The number remains a classic disco hit to this day; anyone who was in the clubs back then will tell you they remember "Cherchez La Femme/Se Si Bon." "Cherchez La Femme/Se Si Bon" weaves in and out of major and minor keys effortlessly to make this number special; and Cory Daye sings this with all her heart and soul. "Cherchez La Femme/Se Si Bon" explores relationships that don't exactly work out for people, famous or not. This is one awesome number! "Sunshower" has a somewhat African feel to it with the use of the drums and the children chanting at the beginning of this song. Like "Cherchez La Femme/Se Si Bon," "Sunshower" uses both major and minor keys to make a mighty beautiful song. Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band sounds great on "Sunshower." In addition, listen for "We Got It Made/Night And Day." This number moves as smooth as they come and the band uses Cole Porter's lyrics for "Night And Day." The album ends with "Sweet And Sour/Lemon In The Honey." This continues that awesome Dr. Buzzard sound and Cory Daye sings this wonderfully. I really like this final track. The liner notes have great artwork and we get the song credits. I wish there were an essay but this is a minor disappointment. Overall, this is one CD you just can't go without if you like the sound of Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band. The quality of the sound is excellent; and this is one album that retro music fans will listen to over and over again.

Not that I was ever really a fan of the "disco-era" music trend, cause I wasn't, the only music that ever appealed to me was from Dr. Buzzard. The music was a clever mix of big band, disco and contemporary which lent itself to be presented as almost a night-club like sound which both easy on the ears and soothing to the soul. For those who are looking for something different, that you can actually listen to and enjoy, this is the CD for you.

I wrote this for the wrong album. This is the One I bought new on 8-track. Fantastic sound . Sort of blends the genres I most enjoy, rock and roll and big band. and classic disco. And easy on the ears. Along with King Creole and Chic, old merv Griffin had these guys on al lot on his afternoon TV show in the 70's.Sorry to hear they are gone.
