Ugh., May 20 2000
By Anne M. Marble "Anne" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Dr. O (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read a lot of terrible horror novels in my time, but this was one of the worst. It was also one of the most obvious rip-offs of "The Silence of the Lambs." Either that, or it's an over-the-top parody. Hmmm. No, it's just bad.
One female FBI agent? Let's have _two_ instead. And let's make one of them a lesbian and the other bisexual. If their sexual preferences had anything to do with the plot, that would be one thing. But like so much else in this novel, the sex scenes between the main characters seemed added to the novel to add shock value.
The serial killer is a doctor who does gross things and eludes capture, but you never get a sense of the character as being clever. You're told he's clever. He's as close to Hannibal Lecter as a lightning bug is to lightning.
The publisher showed the care and concern they had for this book when the author's name on the cover didn't match the one on the title page. Whoops.

One Of My Favorites, Oct 11 2011

This is the first book I have read by Robert W. Walker. Since I finished this book a week ago, I read another by the same author and am reading a third book by him now. I bought it for the low price and because I enjoy medical thrillers. I was not disappointed...could not put it down and when I did I kept thinking about all the ways the book might end. I was definitely shocked and surprised at the ending; nothing I had imagined. It was very unique so I'm really confused by the other person's review about it being a Silence of the Lambs rip-off. Maybe she wanted a love story and this is not one, although there are numerous minor "love story" type relationships in the book. The maybe one page affair between the two females wasn't out of line or graphic and helped the plot make sense. If you enjoy medical/legal thrillers, you will like this book. I am so glad I found one of my new favorite authors!

I Love Rob Walker's Books, April 24 2010
By J. A. KONRATH "Thriller Author" - Published on Amazon.com
I grew up reading mysteries and thrillers. That's probably why I write them.
One of the writers who influences my most was Robert W. Walker.
His Edge series and Instinct series were among my favorites. These were taut, suspenseful crime novels that pulled no punches.
But Rob had more than just those.
His Abraham Stroud (Bloodscreams) books were among the most fun horror novels I ever read. They predated the whole current vampire and zombie crazes.
His Decoy (Ryne Lanark) series was filled with action and startling violence.
His Dean Grant books were prototypes of the CSI/Law and Order shows so popular these days. Rob was doing this before Patricia Cornwell. He was doing it before almost anyone.
Now his entire backlist is available for under $3 an ebook. I hope a whole new generation discovers him, just like I did...
