The Dr. Seuss and Chuck Jones animated TV classic Horton Hears a Who looks great on dvd, and this deluxe edition has a number of extras including additional shorts, Dr. Seuss' Butter Battle Book, Daisy-Head Mayzie and Horton Hatches the Egg. There are also trailers and a sing-a-long music video, You can Hear Horton, Horton Can Hear You! My biggest disappointment is with the so-called documentary "In Search of Dr. Seuss", which is a full-length program (containing big-name actors) but designed for children. This film is unfortunately difficult to sift through if you're an adult looking for biographical details on the author, yet it does contain some early anti-Hitler cartoons and references (which are not so kid-oriented). I would have preferred any other easy-to-access info on the man. Still families and children will be happy with this deluxe edition dvd. (3 1/2 stars)

Maybe I didn't read closely enough, but I thought this was the new version. Not too big of an upset, but still surprising.

After the success of their partnership on the classic holiday TV special ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’, Chuck Jones and Dr. Seuss teamed up again to bring Seuss’ ‘Horton Hears a Who!’ to life as well. It’s a tale of a friendly elephant that discovers a whole world of small critters on a tiny speck of dust.

Like Dr. Seuss’ beloved series of children books, the TV special is brimming with wacky worlds, strange but memorable characters and an explosive color palate featuring vibrant pinks and purples that are seared into your brain – in a good way.

With Dr. Seuss’ trademark wackiness, a heartwarming message, memorable songs, and great video & audio quality, ‘Horton Hears a Who!’ is a fun and entertaining trip for kids of all ages, and comes highly recommended to all. It’s classic family entertainment at its best.

I was worried that the violence might be too much in hindsight -- cartoons used to be very violent when we were kids. I am glad to say it was just find and the 3 year old it was for giggled all the way through and very much enjoyed it.
