Product Description

This beautiful new leatherbound edition of the Dragonlance Chronicles saga marks the first time this story has ever been available for purchase in a premium format. A leather, embossed cover and gilt-edged pages bring a new level of sophistication to the three titles collected inside: Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragons of Winter Night, and Dragons of Spring Dawning. This annotated edition will display beautifully on any shelf and marks the Chronicles trilogy as one of the true classics in fantasy literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book, Aug 1 2008

Lino Tremblay (Chicoutimi, Québec) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Dragonlance Chronicles Special Edition (Hardcover)
This book is one of the most beautiful I have. If you're a DragonLance fan, the color plates, golden edges and Weis and Hickman annotations more than justify the price of this book. So, if you can afford it, get this book, I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do, for the object itself, and for its content. As I had to, you'll have to spend half an hour to remove the sticky label on the back of the book, but it doesn't matter : go for it!

On the other hand, if you're new to the DragonLance world, start with a pocket edition, they're cheaper, and there's no spoiler in them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Special Edition, Dec 28 2006
By J. M. Borek "Solipsist" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Dragonlance Chronicles Special Edition (Hardcover)
This is a review of this particular edition and not a review of the story itself (which I would give 5 stars).

I was expecting a nice collectible copy (in 1 volume) of the original trilogy but instead this is a newly bound edition of the annotated chronicles. The original story is still there but there is the annoying side-bar annotation which make it difficult to concentrate on the main text because it gets pushed towards the center. Therefore if you intend to read this copy you will have to keep the book fully spread out on your lap and strain to read the text as it runs into the center of the book and becomes obscured by the fold.

I wonder why Wizards did not simply produce the original trilogy in a deluxe edition similar to editions we have seen for Lord of the Rings and other classic fantasy trilogies.

The art work is decent but the choice of selection is somewhat baffling. There is no apparent order to the full color pictures so they in no way correspond to the text. In fact, some of the pictures do not even belong to the story at all; several are from the Legends trilogy and even later books. Conspicuous by their abscence are some classic scenes such as the death of Sturm or Kitiara revealed as the dragon highlord.

For a $75 price tag you would think that the full color pages wouldn't be cheap gloss, but they are, and hence the thin text pages tend to stick to them.

The only good thing I can say, besides that the story itself is excellent, is that the binding is tight and well made, and the hand sewn red bookmark is a nice touch.

If you already own a good edition of the chronicles trilogy, and especially if you have the hardcover annotated chronicles in your possession, I would pass on this over priced copy.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition of an epic tale., Nov 3 2006
By Brian LaShomb "bshomb" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Dragonlance Chronicles Special Edition (Hardcover)
I love the Dragonlance stories. I own the old paperback CE of the Chronicles and the Legends. The presentation here is quite nice. The leather looks good, and the guilding is done nicely. There is a sewn in ribbon bookmark, and several color plates throughout the book (although none of Elmore's Death of Sturm, a puzzling absence). There is a fold out map in the back (not big, maybe legal size paper). There is a tribute to Keith Parkinson in the front, which is very fitting. He helped visualize the world of Krynn and it's characters. However, I wonder if this isn't just mostly the Annotated Edition earlier put out in a prettier package. Still, an excellent story, and I hope they bring out a matching Legends CE like this one.

By Sheriece A. Farr "IBYU41" - Published on Amazon.com

This book is absolutely gorgeous! I didn't realize when I bought it that the book is really the Annotated Chronicles. Beautiful gold leafed pages, fantastic artwork. They did a great job on this one guys, it's worth buying the Chronicles again for this one!
