Product Description

“Now that I know about Dragon's life with Anastasia, I understand the man's need for vengeance. The reason for his cold efficiency in duty makes perfect sense. With this new novella series, readers will receive insights that may enhance the full-length [House of Night] series.” – Huntress Reviews (5 stars!) on Dragon's Oath

From the Back Cover

The first in an enthralling new mini-series of novellas from the #1 bestselling authors of the House of Night, Dragon’s Oath tells the story behind the House of Night’s formidable fencing instructor – the love that will transform him, and the promise that will haunt him

With almost 12 million books in print, the House of Night is an international publishing phenomenon that shows no sign of stopping! Now, for the first time, the Cast duo will share the back stories of some of the House of Night’s most crucial—and mysterious—characters. And it all begins with Dragon’s Oath. Before Zoey is Marked and arrives at the House of Night… before she rises in power to confront utter darkness, and the House of Night is divided… there’s Dragon, and the dark choice that won’t let him go.

Long before he’s a professor at the House of Night with Zoey and the gang, in the early 19th century, Bryan Lankford is a troublesome, yet talented human teen. He thinks he can get away with anything… until his father, a British nobleman, has finally had enough, and banishes him to America. When Bryan is Marked on the docks and given the choice between the London House of Night and the dragon-prowed ship to America, he chooses the Dragon – and a new fate.

In 1830’s St. Louis, the Gateway to the West, Dragon Lankford becomes a Sword Master, and soon realizes there are dangerous challenges – and beautiful perks. Like Anastasia, the captivating young Professor of Spells and Rituals at the Tower Grove House of Night, who really should have nothing to do with a fledgling… But when a dark power threatens, Dragon is caught in its focus. Though his uncanny fighting skills make him a powerful fledgling, is he strong enough to ward off this new darkness, while protecting Anastasia as well? Will his choices save her—or destroy them all?

Format: Hardcover
In England, the year 1830, Bryan Lankford is the third son to the Earl of Lankford. When Lord Lankford becomes fed up with his son's antics, he disowns Bryan and banishes him to America. But at the dock, Bryan is Marked by a vampyre, a Tracker, and given the choice of staying at London's House of Night or boarding the dragon-prowed ship to America. To Bryan, the choice is easy. The new fledgling vampyre heads to America.

It is 1833. Twenty-two-year-old Anastasia is a fully Changed vampyre. She is also the youngest professor in the Tower Grove House of Night in St. Louis. Though young in age, she is an expert in spells and rituals. After fifteen students approach and beg Anastasia for a love potion to use on Dragon Lankford, the young professor decides it is time for action. With the permission of High Priestess Pandeia, Anastasia casts a drawing spell. Instead of attracting Dragon's attention to anyone, this drawing spell focuses on the fifteen students who are obsessed with the young Sword Master. Once cast, the fifteen fledglings will see Dragon clearly, without their romantic infatuations clouding their judgements. (Sort of an anti-Dragon Lankford spell.)

The spell works, but due to the real Bryan Dragon Lankford charging into her circle, the spell goes slightly awry. The honest truth about Dragon is revealed to more people than intended. Anastasia's spell draws the future Dragon before her. The fully Changed version is undeniably a Warrior and the conjured vampyre reveals to Anastasia the truth of their future romance. They are destined to be mates. But first, according to the future Dragon, Anastasia would need to be patient. The young, rash, arrogant, and egotistical Dragon would need time to grow and mature.

Format: Audio CD
DRAGON'S OATH is a "novella" in the HOUSE OF NIGHT series. It's a short story, and focuses on Bryan "Dragon" Lankford, the sword master. Read on three audio CDs, the story moves quickly, and gives fans a glimpse into the history of this secondary character in the series.

Dragon is tending to Jax's funeral pyre and flashes back to when he first meets Anastasia and the oath he makes to her before they can be together.

Ms. Davies breathes life into Dragon and gives him heart and soul. His beginnings are far from Midwest America. His journey begins as the third of five sons born to an Earl across the Atlantic. When his romantic entanglements cause his family disgrace, his father disowns him and banishes him to America. On his trip to the docks, his life takes a drastic change. There he becomes a Fledgling and finds that he has a talent for the sword, the only possession his father allowed him to take with him.

Ms. Davies makes the listener feel the anguish and loss that Dragon feels when he is disowned. She captures his wonder at his newfound abilities and opportunities. And she shares his zest for life as he tries to win Anastasia's heart.

DRAGON'S OATH explains the background history of Dragon and Anastasia's love and the torment he experiences after her death in a previous novel. I have to admit, DRAGON'S OATH is my favorite story in the HOUSE OF NIGHT series so far. It was not nearly as dark as the rest of the series, and it made a character seem more real, by getting to know him more thoroughly. I look forward to the Cast team creating more novellas in this vein, and hope that Ms. Davies will be there to bring them to life on audio.

Format: Hardcover
Dragon's Oath is a House of Night YA (Young Adult) novella written by the mother-daughter writing duo of PC and Kristin Cast. Set in the early 19th century, the storyline, featuring vampyres Bryan 'Dragon' Lankford and Professor Anastasia, is a prequel to the current day HON series. The novel begins in the present, shortly after the 'murder' of Dragon's beloved mate Anastasia, but quickly flashes back to the early 1800s where the storyline continues.

When I sat down to read this novella, I was pleasantly surprised. Although the YA genre is sometimes filled with teen angst and broken hearts, this storyline did not have any of the usual ''whoa is me'. Perhaps, the characters were a little older or more mature, because I was reading a prequel to the series but I was pleased with the Cast's departure from the recent HON novels.

Bryan is high spirited, physically gifted with beauty, a talented swordsman and a sexually promiscuous young man, when his father cast him aside and out of England. As the middle and smallest son, of the Earl of Lankford, Bryan had never considered his lifestyle a detriment to his family, but soon realized that no amount of pleading or begging, would invoke sympathy or forgiveness from the one man who despised his existence. Before setting sail, Bryan is 'marked ' as a fledgling vampyre and escorted aboard the 'dragon' ship bound for the Americas.

Three years later, Professor Anastasia, a well loved and respected professor of magic and spells, at the House of Night campus, summons the High Priestess and her mate, to discuss the rumors regarding one-Dragon Lankford and his rambunctious and dynamic entreaties with both the male and female students at the HON.
