Review

Praise for H.I.V.E series: 'A comedy thriller, full of baddies, action and lashings of humour' Sunday Express 'An exuberant Dahl-esque escapade' Financial Times 'Exciting, clever and all in all brilliant' Sunday Telegraph 'A clever and gripping read' Junior Education Plus --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Book Description

A renegade faction of the world’s most powerful villains is intent on destroying G.L.O.V.E. (Global League Of Villainous Enterprises) and showing the world the true face of evil. The Disciples begin by hijacking Diabolus Darkdoom’s Airborne command post, then they kidnap his son and his son’s best friend. Unfortunately for them, Nigel Darkdoom (and Franz) also happen to be Otto’s friends. Heading out to America, Otto, Wing et al embark on a perilous and highly unauthorised rescue operation. Cut off from the support of H.I.V.E. and on the run from American security forces the hunt for their friends leads to one of the US military’s most secret facilities. It becomes clear that the Disciples are not all they appear and in a desperate race against time Otto must work out who his real friends are and prevent the Disciples from completing their true objective. Only Otto can save the world from domination by a sinister new world order but it might be that the price he has to pay is just too high. When it comes to the crunch will he be prepared to sacrifice himself?

5.0 out of 5 stars Ending of All Endings, Jan 2 2012
By Jade Zsiros - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Dreadnought (Hardcover)
I'm going to include a quote from the journal entry I wrote after I finished this volume:

"I was not happy that this was much shorter than all of the others, but it made up almost entirely in content. Almost. I hated and loved the ending at the same time. Note, though, to Mr. Walden: Don't scare your fans like that. I honestly thought Laura was going to kill herself there for a minute at the end. Luckily, though, she didn't. Which is good because Laura is my favorite character, whom we found out in this book has a desktop that says "Han shot first!". I thought that was hilarious.

Then I read the last page.

I very nearly screamed at the top of my lungs every curse word I knew. Which probably wouldn't have made the children at the next restaurant table over very happy. So as soon as I got home I read the online preview for Rogue, and was intrigued. And disappointed because Lucy is still there.

Anyways.

So I'd give Dreadnought a nine point five out of ten, I think. A good three points awarded for the heart attack I almost had on the last page. While I hated it, it certainly caught my attention."

Now, here are the pros and cons, which I have to always have to include:
Cons:
1. Her name is Lucy Dexter. And she could have easily prevented this entire catastrophe.
2. Length. About fifty pages shorter than the previous volume. And, I genuinely felt sorry for the people whom I knew would have to wait for Rogue to come out, because the story seemed just a little less complete.

Pros:
1. THE END. Never have I read a conclusion that made me so surprised in the last two paragraphs. I could not focus for the remainder of the day, and drove friends and strangers insane with talk of a book I many times forgot to mention the title of.
2. The series. Just being a part of it earns it extra points.
3. Poker. Read to find out.

Other notes: This one took on a feel less scifi and more fantasy, with the introduction of Lucy Dexter, who has abilities which I will not spoil, but let's just say they have no scientific backing. Hint, though: look up the Latin meaning of the word Dexter. Then, think of the opposite of that meaning, and translate it into Latin.
