5.0 out of 5 stars A deck that lives up to its name May 7 2009

The Dream Enchantress Tarot is a fantasy themed Tarot deck illustrated by Marco Nizzoli. Following on the footsteps of the Secret Tarot, Nizzoli's comic book style artwork shows us glimpses to a fantasy world influenced by the mysterious Dream Enchantress.

The images in this deck are inked with non-intrusive outlines, and painted with lively colors. The focus of these images are women, which are displayed soft, strong and sensual throughout this deck. As such, there is a lot of nudity, which may be a turn off for some.

The Major Arcana are numbered top and bottom with roman numerals, starting on 0 with The Fool. However, I was so captivated by the imagery in these cards that at first I didn't notice the lack of labels. This imagery is loosely inspired by the Rider's tradition, with a few hints of Marseilles. For examples, Justice is 8 and Strength is 11 in this deck.

The Minor Arcana avoid the use of labels displaying icons instead. For each card, an icon indicative of their suit is set at the top. The suits are represented with their characteristic icon: a chalice, a pentacle, a sword and a wand. These are also present within the card imagery. The Court Cards display an icon akin to chess pieces at the bottom: a helmet for the Knave, a horse's head for the Knight, and distinctive crowns for the Queen and King. A number is shown at the bottom of the cards for the remaining Minor Arcana.

Due to its nudity and lack of labels, I wouldn't recommend this deck for beginners. However, this deck is one of the most enchanting decks I have ever owned. I recommend it for those collectors who like a fantasy theme with a feminine edge. It comes in a fitting box and includes a Little White Book.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful card set Feb 8 2010

I bought this as a gift for my friend and she loved it, so did I. I wanted to get a set for myself. The art is beautiful! We thought it may be difficult to tell which card is which, but it is actually very simple since they are represented with a symbol and roman numerals.
I think it would be fine for a beginner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! Mar 23 2013
By Angelina H. - Published on Amazon.com
I have been a tarot reader for 17 years and try to keep up with what decks are newly released, but somehow this spiffy deck escaped my notice. It was published 4 years ago. It combines surrealistic, dreamtime images with those of the waking world in a way that makes it a joy to get to know. The pictures are very engaging. I felt that most of the cards were pulling me into them; you take a look at a card and instantly find yourself immersed in it. Being able to create that kind of response in someone is the mark of an artist with an amazing vision of what tarot can be. It also makes this a deck that would be fabulous for pathworking. But even just on the surface, the cards have a lively, here and now feel to them that is totally engaging. They truly do *feel* real in the way that our dreams can feel real....which is exactly what the deck says it can do. That is amazing. Additionally, all the little touches of intuitively meaningful symbols that many other tarot artists leave off their work is included here, and that adds to the rich depth and substance. The energy of this deck is wonderful. There is some female nudity but it is tasteful, even classy. All in all, this is the kind of deck you can build a relationship with, and any reader could use this deck with confidence in its ability to speak volumes.
