Dio's last strong album,
By Lunar Strain "Thrash, don't mind if I do" (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream Evil (Audio CD)
Dream Evil is argueably Dio's last strong album until Magica was released in 2001. Every album after until then just didn't measure up. Dream Evil is more reminesent of Dio's first two albums Holy Diver and The Last IN Line ratehr than Sacred Heart. There's less keyboards and more guitars. Like previous albums, Dream Evil kicks off with a fast track entitled Night People (one of the best tracks on the CD) and is followed by the solid title track. Sunset Superman has good guitars but suffers from a somewhat awkward chours (sunset superman?). The fouth track All the Fools Sailed Away si one of the best songs Dio has ever wrote. Other than an awkward keybord towars teh end of the song, it is nearly perfect. The rest of the CD is solid Dio metal music. Dio fans will be pleased and so will metal fans in general. Check out the awsome cover art. Gives new meaning to "Sleep Tight."

Do you like the Dark?,
By Mattowarrior "Mattowarrior" (Madison, WI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream Evil (Audio CD)
Dream Evil, even though it features a new guitarist in the form of Craig Goldy, is a (for the most part) excellent album. Craig's guitar style is more fluid than the raunchier style of Vivian Campbell (who later sold out totally). There are even some riffs that recall Dio's former band with Ritchie Blackmore, Rainbow. Its an essential purchase for Dio fans (and the keyboards give it an extra atmospheric kick) though not without its flaws. "I Could Have Been A Dreamer" is the most flaccid song Dio has ever done, veering very closely to Pop Metal. The production is a bit thin, and I also notice Dio's vocals are slightly distorted (If any album is in a need of a remastering its definitely this one). However, given that, the Elven one gave us another gem in spite of the obstacles.

Dio's Sailing Away.....,
By Azlan Mohammed (Trinidad.West Indies.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dream Evil (Audio CD)
This is a good effort by Dio but definitely missing Guitarist Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldie plays well and his solos are good but... Vivian is missing on this one!All the fools sailed away is the best song on the C.d followed by the title song. I think there are too much keyboards on this one, the album comes through a little too polished. But the ElfMan always cometh! DIO FANATIC Latiffa.
