Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Like Richard Bach's 1970 classic, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, this little guide by the bestselling author of the Prayer of Jabez franchise is a story about pursuing one's dreams. But it aims to be a "practical and innovative guide to achieving your Big Dream" as well. The first part of Wilkinson's slender book is the fable of person searching for what's missing in his life. A "Nobody named Ordinary who lived in the Land of Familiar," he decides, finally, to pursue his higher calling; he encounters-and overcomes-many obstacles along the way. In the second part of the book, Wilkinson plays the role of a Dream Coach, counseling readers on how to achieve their own Big Dreams though facing their fears, enduring hardships, surrendering to God and realizing their full potential. Looking back to moments in the tale of Ordinary, Wilkinson reemphasizes and reiterates the lessons learned by his everyman, employing personal anecdotes, scripture and impassioned prose. The book speaks plainly of achieving lofty goals and overcoming conflict, and the message of the parable may touch the hearts of readers who need a spiritual push. But it may also strike some as overly simplistic, since the tone veers towards childish at times ("We've all seen how Bullies work. Remember, they react primarily because you have disturbed their Comfort Zone. They feel threatened. They feel losing something important-their security or routine, their assumptions about success. Maybe they feel that they're losing you"). That said, those who need warm, enthusiastic encouragement should find it here.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tony Robbins, Jul 29 2007
By Justin Majeau "Justin" (Edmonton, AB, CAN) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bruce Wilkinson divides his latest book, The Dream Giver, into two parts.

Part 1 is the fictional narrative of a guy named Ordinary, from the people of Nobody who leaves his native Land of Familiar to chase after something called Dream.

The second part of the book is named The Journey to Your Big Dream. This is the section that the author tries to bring understanding to his already very easy to understand narrative which borders on the side of embarrassment. (Nobody stands for you Land of Familiar is your comfort zone oh!!!! All the while I was thinking Nobody stood for the state of my prayer life and Land of Familiar had something to do with church politics-thanks for clearing that up Bruce)

Len Sweet taught me that every single book has something positive to offer if you are open, so to prove him right again I will say that Dream Giver is helpful by providing a special venue to view our dreams/ambitions in the landscape of a journey. It is like a mini biographical piece on our dreams.

Bruce claims to be following in the footsteps of C.S. Lewis and John Bunyan with his latest book, but for Mr. Jabez it is probably safe to say he is more accurately following in the steps of Tony Robbins or his Christian counterpart Joel Osteen

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ONE, finally did it!, May 26 2004
By Sheila Gilbert (La Plata, MD USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book will take you "there" It did me, and I have read them ALL. I found that this book sincerely helped me see where I was, and how to get on with it. I liked the book very mush, the real issue here is, WHO YOU ARE, and WHAT YOUR PURPOSE IS, HOW TO FIND IT, and GETTING ON WITH IT.
Life is so much simpler than we make it. Just let this book show you how, to get to who, and what, YOU are. This book will do JUST THAT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dream Stepper, May 19 2004
Bruce has produced an excellent book, easy to read (I read it in one sitting) filled with encouraging words.

If you have difficulty dealing with parables or word pictures this might not be a wise choice for you. However, if you are on a spiritual life journey and wish to know where God has you in the process, this book is for you.

I believe that Bruce has struck a perfect balance of scripture and application. The allegory is perfectly clear and I intend to purchase this book for two friends who are on their own journey but in very different places than I.

Buy it and put it in your church library!
