A GORGEOUS CD,
By John Bush (Boston, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dreamer (Audio CD)
After taking a second listen to Dreamer, I realized that I have in my hands one of the greatest bossa nova albums in history. Eliane's singing is seductive, her voice is personal, distictive, her phrasing is fantastic, like only a great musician/singer can deliver. Eliane's piano playing is superb, as always; her solos are melodic, they swing, and they effortlessly tell a story through her seamless improvisations. As a songwriter, she demonstrates her superior craftmanship where the harmony adds to the emotional content of the lyric to devastatingly heart-wrenching effect. After hearing so many jazz artists trying to present Brazilian music in their recordings,it's a breath of fresh air to finally hear it done authentically. And with the uncomparable quality of a musician of her caliber. There seems to be a glut of singer/pianists out there today, but for me the reigning queen is Eliane Elias.

Dream On,

I have always been a fan of Eliane Elias. Her new album, Dreamer, appears at first to be a departure from her earlier work as a jazz pianist and sometime singer. In my opinion, Dreamer could be classified as an"easy listening" CD on first hearing. But on closer listening, Elias' impeccable pianistic abilities, her authentic rhythms, her emotionally provocative and sometimes compelling vocals make this CD one of the best of all times, for all people. Cheers to Elias for continually discovering ways to display her many talents.

Outstanding!,

Probably her finest. I consider Elias as probably the best Lyrical/impressionistic jazz piano player out there. I have all her CDs and relish every one;but I had a little apprehension when I heard that "Dreamer" was "with strings"-Elevator music? But I remember her "Through the Fire" on an old CD which had Strings. It was great. This CD has it all. Great songs and arrangements(her Time Alone is a classic) But her solos are special, she can move you in so many ways and then gets funky and leaves you laughing. One to cherish.
