Product Description

Taiwanese pressing. After 8 studio albums, Dreamer In Concert is the first album that captures Stacey's magical onstage persona. From the stage of La Cigale, she delivers fresh interpretations of some of the most emblematic songs in her repertoire, including the standards of the Great American Songbook, The Best Is Yet To Come, They Can't Take That Away From Me, It Might As Well Be Spring and others. She also revisits the classic French songs, Ces Petits Riens, Samba Saravah and Jardin d'Hiver. The repertoire also includes 4 previously unrecorded selections; 2 from Ant“nio Carlos Jobim, Waters of March and Dreamer, and 2 new compositions by her husband, saxophonist and the album's producer, Jim Tomlinson; Postcard Lovers, with lyrics by the novelist, Kazuo Ishiguro (author of Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go) and O Comboio, penned by the Portuguese poet, Antonio Ladeira, which Stacey sings, beautifully, in Portuguese. Indeed so sublimely does she sing in Portuguese, that Kent, who is fast becoming a major star in Brazil, is one of just two American artists (the other is James Taylor) invited to perform at the 80th birthday celebrations of Rio's world famous landmark, Cristo O Redentor, on October 12th when over a million people will gather on Copacabana Beach.

I love live recordings as long as they are well recorded so that on a good sound system they can at least give you the illusion of attending a live concert. This recording is a great example of that type of recreation of the live experience. This is not surprising given that Ms Kent's studio recordings are generally also of very high quality. And of course her voice is so intimate to begin with that when it is captured live it seems even more intimate. There is not bad cut in the bunch. Enjoy.

Lovely music! Lovely voice! I got to listen to the whole CD on a alternate music station first. Great jazz! I think she's better than Diana Krall. Her backup band is superb as well.

The best singer of standards in the world today Feb. 8 2012
By Steve Richardson - Published on Amazon.com

Stacey is still the best, nearly every song she sings, becomes the definitive version of the tune. I was lucky enough to see her perform a few years back (she rarely plays in the U.S.) and it's nice to have this CD as a sort of memory of that fine show.

Just like being in Paris! July 9 2012

I love this CD of Stacey Kent's as I felt I was in the Paris cafe listening to her. Her voice is smooth and captivating. This is the 3rd CD I have purchased since I was introduced to her music a couple of months ago by a friend.

Sophisticated and beautifully recorded live concert Nov. 5 2012
By Bill Stevenson - Published on Amazon.com

Stacey Kent has a magic about her that is well captured on this disc. This concert was recorded in France and the audiences' response to her singing was one of mounting enthusiasm. The sidemen gave her very well executed support, but never got in the way, on a mix of mostly standards. Musical and delivered with polished good taste. One of the best live jazz vocal recordings of this or any year. Highly recommended.

Awesome CD.
I had not heard of Sacey until i saw a video of her on youtube.
I purchased this cd and now I am ready to purchase some more of her work.
The music is of mostly standards with some french tunes. Stacey's voice is very smooth with a playful but sophistated quality that I really enjoy. The arrangements are excellent for her style and for a live recording it is extremely well done.
I considered this to be one of the best CD in my Jazz collection.
