dissapointing,

This review is from: Druids (DVD)
The film is about the Gauls in what is now France in the time of Caesar, and thier conflict with Rome. Christopher Lambert stars as the Gaulic (as in Galic) king who's destiny is to unite his people and carry on his father's fight against the Roman Empire, something not everyone in his land agrees upon. I thought the film might be full of fighting and gore and not much to interest a woman, but it was interesting and the fighting was not terribly realistic (which is how I prefer it). The film was however sadly not very well put together and I was kinda lost. The sence of place was not there, even just "present day France" in bracets under the place names could have filled us in. It doesn't grab us much, or teach us much, or tell the story very well. This is a topic that could be so well covered, in the way the Scots and Native North Americans have been and I think they kinda missed the mark with Druids. I have been waiting for a movie about our European ancestors for a long time, and I hope with a second viewing it will give more. I love Christopher Lambert(though he might not have been the best choice for this role), and Ian McKellan is great, and Caesar is very well played, but this is no Rob Roy, or Conan the Barbarian. Three stars for the subject chosen, and the costume and hair and acting is great, but it could be sooooo much better, so much more moving and involving. We just don't feel much in this. Lets have a real epic drama about the early Celts, Britons and Teutons! For now at least we have 13th Warrior about the Norse.
