Heroes Come and Go, But a King Reigns Forever

Did the Alien bastards not learn their lesson the first time? Duke has been on hiatus for some time now, kicking back and franchising himself on the fame he gained from saving Earth from the first invasion. The Aliens have returned to Earth yet again, messing up Duke's sweet routine of dirty leisure habits. The Alien invaders are stealing Earth's women, especially the hot ones! And they drank Duke's beer. This-Won't-Stand. As Duke battles his way through waves of aliens, the once beautiful gambling haven and Duke Nukem franchise chains are crumbling before his eyes. Time to bring the pain

Duke Nukem is one of the biggest and most recognizable brands in gaming history. Irreverent, UN-PC, and uber-Macho, Duke Nukem is the perfect antidote to the overdose of today's clichéd gaming archetypes. The game's cocktail of alien invasion, busty babes, bawdy comedy and big guns never gets old. The highly anticipated Duke Nukem Forever is a celebration of what video games are really about: an out loud good time. The game is huge, with hours and hours of over-the-top single player action, and a range of bodacious multiplayer modes like Duke Match, Capture the Babe and Hail to the king, players can rest assured knowing that the fun will last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Always bet on Duke! Jun 21 2011

I had preordered this, and while I waited for it to arrive, its reviews, both as a game, and the extras for the Balls of Steel edition, made me sort of nervous. Had I made a misstep?

But then it arrived, and I was reminded that trust in Duke is never misplaced! I don't really see the validity of the complaints leveled against this game, and can only imagine they were made by people unfamiliar with Duke Nukem as a whole, or who let themselves get Phantom Menace Syndrome over it. The game does sometimes lag for a split second, but it's never gotten in the way of my enjoyment. The graphics are fine enough for me, the load times are like 30-35 seconds at the worst, the puzzles are interesting, and if you play well, you won't be seeing too much of them, the weapons are interesting, and I like the levels. The game's flaws don't hamper it being super-fun. I was glad to see an FPS that's not a thinly veiled commercial for the Army. When's the last time you played one of those?

The Balls of Steel extra goodies are also wonderful! I don't understand how anyone could dislike them. There were some that I didn't care much about, like the sticker and papercraft, but they were still well done. The card deck, while small, is still really cool, as are the chips and dice. The bust... what did you expect, a foot and a half tall statue of Duke Nukem? It's not incredibly big, but it's well made, well detailed, and better than most game extras like this I've collected. The comic is cool, the certificate's nice, and the postcards are pretty spiffy. The art book is an absolute treasure, and its craftsmanship is remarkable.

To summarize, the game's amazing in spite of a few flaws that don't hold it down, the Balls of Steel edition is even better and well worth the money, and all the bad reviews in the world can't hide that Duke is still the King. If you don't go in expecting some ultra-masterpiece that will revolutionize gaming and extras that include full poker sets and life-size Duke Nukem statues, along with a bucketful of other goodies, you're in for an awesome time.

this game is true to its Duke Nukem roots. If you loved the comic relief of the originals then you will enjoy this one. I was slightly disappointed in the game because after so many years i had hoped the game would have evolved to the now grown up Duke fans but it didnt. after some consideration i realized this is Duke and to have changed him drastically would have been an epic fail.

For the most part, this game can be somewhat wordy at times. However, this game is created by people who wanted to make games for themselves, not necessarily for the average video game consumers in the twenty-first century. Duke's conversations are to satisfy the players who played video games in the Clinton era. We talked a lot and we dealt with many unclear pixels back in the day. Some of the video game players' eyes were f-ed up because of it. Let's suppose that it is the sacrifice that we have made to play this game.

Some people say that the graphics are not as clear, yet it is ten times better than counter-strike's pictures for the big bosses and AI. I can see why ten years of R&D was put into this. And to purchase the Balls of Steel Edition is worth it in my opinion. Thank you very much.
