Product Description

Dungeons & Dragons is an American animated television series based on TSR's Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. A co-production of Marvel Productions and TSR, the show originally ran from 1983 through 1985 for three seasons on CBS for a total of twenty-seven episodes. The Japanese company Toei Animation did the animation for this series. The show focused on a group of six friends who are transported into the titular realm and followed their adventures as they tried to find a way home with the help of their guide 'Dungeon Master'. A final un-produced episode would have served as a conclusion as well as a re-imagining had the series been picked up for a fourth season. However, the show was cancelled before the episode was made. The script can be found from various sources online and was performed as an audio drama as a special feature for the BCI Eclipse DVD edition of the series. 27 episodes

In 2006, Dungeons & Dragons: The Complete Animated Series was released in a handsome 5-disc boxed set by BCI Eclipse. In addition to having all 27 episodes beautifully remastered, the set featured a ton of bonus content including featurettes, audio commentaries, a hardcover game supplement, a radio-style presentation of the final unfinished episode, and so much more. The set quickly became a fan favorite and helped set a new standard for modern cartoon classics on DVD. However, not long after, BCI encountered financial problems and was forced to close down operations for good. This meant that all of their DVD releases were now or would soon be out of print. In 2009, Mill Creek Entertainment acquired the rights to many of BCI's TV properties including the 'Dungeons and Dragon' animated series, which has been repackaged as a bare bones 3-disc set collecting the complete run of the series. For hardcore fans, this means that none of the supplemental material from the previous release will be carried over (thus, the one star rating deduction). However, for casual fans, the incredibly inexpensive retail price of this new collection makes it a more enticing purchase.

For the uninitiated, this series tells the tale of six kids who, after riding the Dungeons & Dragons rollercoaster, mysteriously get sucked into its fantasy world. There, each of them gains magical talents and abilities, all the better to survive their time in the Realm. The bow-shooting ranger, the acrobat, the thief, the cavalier, the wizard, and the boy-barbarian are soon joined by a baby unicorn, and tutored by the mysterious Dungeon Master.

I love this show... it may be old and occasionally corny but I love it all the same! So was very impressed when I recieved by movie box (which looks very cool btw)however the game book inside was a disappointment. What should have been a treasure (especially for a D&D nut like me) was unfortunaly broken... I am 95% sure that all the pages are there but they are unfortunately not longer attached. It may have been just me, and I still give this a good review because the show is wonderful. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes D&D or even old school TV shows!

This was a cheap price and as I watched the episodes it brought me back to my childhood on Saturday mornings. I watched these with my 4 year old and she loved them as well... She loved Uni and despised the evil Venger. Great fun and for the $[...] or whatever it was a great value.

Good bit of Saturday morning nostalgia. If you are a Gen X, you will probably remember the story of the group of kids that get trapped in an alternate universe after a trans-dimensional trip through the amusement park ride. Battling the evil Venger, and avoiding the 6 headed dragon Tiamat and guided by the dungeon master, our six teenaged heroes try and fail every episode to get home. Think Gilligan's Island, with medieval weapons and Magic and no beach. Fave episode? For me, Dragons' Graveyard! The kids finally use the weapons as, well, weapons! Only drag is no extras. :(. Nothing like the version released from Europe, alas. But good value none the less! I can finally throw out my VHS tapes from 1980's!

I've been wanting this series for years. I had a few episodes taped but on BETA. I only just got rid of the beta machine, but even then couldn't part with the tape holding the dungeon's and dragons cartoons. I watched them as a teenager when they first came out and then watched the taped episodes with my son when he was little. It was a great series. Lots of fun. Every once in a while I check amazon to see if the series is available. Today I hit the jackpot.

Loved the series as a kid although the quality of this worse than expected. The picture quality is pretty close to VHS recorded quality and the sleeve looks like someone printed it off their home computer. Despite this though, it's worth having if you were a fan of the series. Great nostalgia.
