Book Description

May 18 2009 3211887288 978-3211887288 5th ed. 2009

During the past decades, "Dynamics of the singing voice" has successfully been established as a reference text for teachers of singing, singers, choral conductors and organists, speech and voice therapists, laryngologists and other health professionals, psychologists and those in linguistics. It discusses the physiological, psychological, musical and emotional aspects of the voice, particularly as they relate to singing but also to speaking. The book provides a greater understanding of how the voice works and the many factors involved in singing as well as an objective discussion of singing without reference to specific techniques.

In this fifth edition, the author has now updated and rearranged the content. Furthermore she has added a new chapter on vocal pedagogic aspects in order to meet the requirements of the art of singing of the 21st century. Thus this new book provides the reader with the established concepts in combination with the latest knowledge about modern approaches to the singing voice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great condition; dry read. Sept. 25 2010
By Camille M. Hightower - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Well, I actually had to buy this book for a college course of mine, so the most I can say about it is that: 1) It's informative, 2) It's also EXTREMELY boring, 3) It was in a pretty decent condition from the seller. All in all, as a vocalist this book is a very good reference to your instrument and helps answer any questions you might have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Text - Very Technical Feb. 17 2010
By StudentForLife - Published on Amazon.com

This was a required textbook for my Vocal Pedagogy class. I have found it extremely helpful. It is very technical read, though, so don't expect to learn this information by skimming the pages or reading through it one time. Overall, it was a good investment, and a decent resource to refer back to throughout my musical career. It does carry a very high price tag for a textbook of its size.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time April 9 2013
By Dbh2 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Absolutely horrid book. It's full of pseudocientific ramblings that only detract from the information. Don't waste your time or money unless you're into Chopra, crystal energy healing and such.
I expected better from Springer.
4.0 out of 5 stars A little too touchy feely for me June 26 2013
By rolanda - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The last edition did not have the very large section on the touchy feely part of voice pedagogy that this most recent edition has. I am looking for a textbook for my intro to vocal pedagogy class. I might use this, but would skip a few chapters to get to the essential basics.
5.0 out of 5 stars I love the new chapters. June 24 2013

The new chapters in this book make it completely worth the purchase. The older chapters have been updated somewhat as well.
