I purchased this EZOPower 6000mAh unit expecting to get a backup battery that could be charged with solar (sunlight).
At first glance, it looks to be pretty well built and has a nice solid feel. I charged it up overnight using a USB charger, then used it to recharge my iPad. Which it did. After which, the EZO unit showed it was essentially discharged (only 1 blue LED).

What it doesn't do is recharge with sunlight. I put it outside on my picnic table in full sunshine for a day (>10 hours). The 'gas gauge' still showed 1 bar. I left it outside for 4 more days (>10 hours sun each day). Even after a steady diet of photons, it not not acquire any charge at all. The gas gauge stills show 1 bar, and it delivers no voltage when connected to an iPad, iPhone, or my little USB-powered nightlight.

After a number of e-mails with the vendor (emaxland), they agreed to exchange it. However, I had to pay return shipping to get it back to them. That cost me $19 CDN for cross-border shipping from Canada. A new unit arrived a week later. Guess what - it has the same defect. It does not charge under sunlight. I conclude that either the design is crap and it's fundamentally incapable of solar recharging, or the Chinese manufacturer has a serious quality control problem resulting in whole batches of defective units being produced.

After more e-mails with emaxland, they gave me a full credit for the purchase price (though not for my expense in shipping the first unit back). They told me to keep the defective unit (as if I'd spend even more money to return it...). It does seem to work fine if I charge it from the mains with a USB charger, but that's not what I wanted it for.

UPDATE - I contacted Amazon Customer Service re the policy where Buyer pays return shipping for defective product. A very thoughtful CSR agreed that such policy was not appropriate, and processed a credit coupon to my Amazon account. Yay Amazon!!!

I bought this unit just before I went for 2 weeks vacation in Punta Cana DR. This thing ROCKS!
I used it to recharge my Kindel, my Kodak 1024P Sports Camera and my Sony Walkman. Recharging in southern sunshine from zero to full charge took 3-4 days; I could go from 1/2 to full charge in 2 days. However, the solar portion of this device is secondary for me. e.g. I can fast (2-3 hours) recharge the EVO unit via a usb cable from my laptop computer.

The real advantage of the EVO is that it's a portable 3 amp-hour USB power source that I can use on-the-go to recharge any of my failing electronic toys.

The unit has 2 modes you enter by pressing and holding down the silver push-button switch.
Mode 1: Charging: The 4-led display lights up sequentially, 1, 2, 3, 4, all out, then 1, 2, 3 and 4 again, etc.
Mode 2: Discharging/Charging: The 4-led display shows the state of battery charge: 4 leds = full charge, 1 led = low charge. If the unit is being used to power another device, over time you can watch the display change from 4 to 3 to 2 leds as the power is dawn from the EVO battery. Further, if the battery is charging via the solar panel or via the usb port then the 4 led display lights up sequentially, 1, 2, 3, 4 (charging), then changes to flash the state of battery charge (e.g. 3 led flash)... and then the cycle repeats.
e.g. 1,2,3,4...3,...1,2,3,4...3...1,2,3,4
Yes you can charge the device battery (via solar or USB) while you draw power from it to energize another device. e.g. On a truck ride to the outback, I used sunshine to charge the EVO battery while I drew power from it to recharge my movie camera battery.
I like it and would recommend it. Just don't expect big things from a small solar panel.

Found a new use of it , can use it on my Wilson Sleek to power it in a campsite away from the car.

it has every option to fit almost any toy you will every buy.

comes with case , you need the case to keep all the plugs and protect the solar panels .

If putting it on your dash , don't let is get too hot , put a cloth on the dash first and keep the windows on each side down a bit , as it can get to 165 degrees in a locked car and that's too hot for electronics. Its pretty sensitive, daylight alone will charge it and of course you can charge it at home or in a car too. It holds a lot of juice so a wall outlet is the fastest way.

I bought this device through, and I have to say I'm quite happy with it. It came with adapters to charge my phone, tablet, NDS, and more. Charging with solar energy does indeed work, but as expected, it charges very slowly. Under realistic conditions (in Toronto), it would take multiple days. I mainly charge this through my computer (USB) and use solar energy as trickle input on the go.

On a single charge it can recharge my phone and still have energy left over. It can also hold this charge quite well, I examined it over several days and it did not dissipate enough for any of the bars to go down. In this way, it acts as a secondary battery, so I'm quite happy with this product. I haven't run into any emergencies yet (and hopefully won't) but things happen, and I bet this little guy will save me (or a nearby friend!) trouble sometime down the road, and for that, I recommend this product. I keep it in my travel bag wherever I go, it is very lightweight. I also keep it on my windowsill beside my plants. You can also keep it on a car dashboard or something like that.

For those of you looking into using sustainable energy, I realize the energy produced by this solar panel throughout its lifespan may not even be enough to offset the energy and resource extraction/production used to create the product itself, but I feel these are steps forward, however small, and it is still good to support these kinds of developments.

Some reviews on express concerns about the connecting cable being too flimsy. I received the coil type connector rather than the wind up connector, and it works great.
