Excellent for the money, but not for drives that run hot or in constant use

Excellent for the money to be sure. Well made, attractive and support usb 3.0 They also provide the special usb 3 cable. I have four of these and they are all fine. The only problem is that there is no provision for cooling. No fan (at this price OK), but there are no air vents nor any easy way to run the drive with the cover off (the drive tray slides out of the box, so you would have to run it using just the tray which is doable, and this is what I will probably do since, in my applications, they don't have to be pretty.) No easy way to add a fan. I would note that 7200 rpm and certainly 10,000 rpm drives can run very very hot and should be fan cooled! Having said that, I rather have passive cooling since the small cheap fans they tend to use in external enclosures can easily die after a while and you would not know this until the drive burns up.

I was looking for a cheap USB HDD enclosure. I found this one, and it works like a charm. The build quality is subpar, but you get what you pay for. When it comes to the electronics, the business end of the product, everything works as expected. Since most SATAII hard drives won't utilize the entire bus speed of USB 3.0, it is not utilizing all USB 3.0 can offer, but that is a minor detail.
