book good - seller bad, Jan 26 2010
This review is from: East of Ealing (Paperback)
As always, a Rankin book that I was anxiously awaiting. My only complaint was the seller.. awesomebooks.ca. First of all, they are not Canadian, they are from the UK, which is perhaps why the book didn't arrive on time. The "good condition" book arrived practically bent in half horizontally, badly stained with something like 10 year old coffee, and smelled terrible. I have currently washed the book down best I can with white vinegar solution and put dryer sheets between the pages - we'll see what happens. I left a bad review and they picked up on it, emailed me and said they'd refund my purchase, that it "must have slipped through their quality control" and let me keep the book - please please change my review. I refused to do so. It seems like they have mostly positive reviews - but when you read them carefully, MOST of them say that BECAUSE the money has been refunded, NOT because the product was good. Furthermore, as the book was sold for $0.08, I hardly felt that them giving it to me for free was a sacrifice on their part. It's really a shame that this has to happen because I thoroughly enjoy Robert Rankin's books and have always been happy with Amazon's service.

Robert Rankin at his best, April 24 2000
By Amir - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: East of Ealing (Paperback)
East of Ealing, a part of the "infamous" 5 book Brentford trilogy, will not disappoint the fans of the series. Find out in this book whether the flying swans patrons will once again outlive the fiendish schemes of the archvillain, or even worse, will their drinking be interrupted ("mine will be a pint of large , neville"). If you're a fan, you will love this book, if you are not, you have been wasting your precious few daily hours of sobriety ....

Disappointing, Aug 14 2009
By Wayne Milford "WM" - Published on Amazon.com

I must say after having read the first two novels in this series, and quite enjoying them, this one was a disappointment. The story does not end so much as it stops, with none of the plot lines resolved. I expected much more from an author whose work I have come to enjoy.
