5.0 out of 5 stars Growing plants is easy after all!, Dec 21 2001

This review is from: Easy-Care Guide to Houseplants (Paperback)
I picked up Jack Kramer's book Easy-Care Guide to Houseplants at an Ace Hardware store when I was first attempting to grow some other houseplants besides the unkillable Devil's Ivy. As far as your basic guide to plant care goes, this is the stuff. I'm constantly thumbing through it when I need to figure out which plants would thrive best in a dark bedroom or a bright kitchen. Plus the photos are simply beautiful. Some of the highlights of the book include decorating with plants, choosing houseplants, growing herbs inside, picking the right containers, raising and grooming, propagating and understanding plant problems. This handy book also gives you step-by-step instructions on how to build your own knockdown growing stand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book packed with great info, Sep 27 1999
This review is from: Easy-Care Guide to Houseplants (Paperback)
This is an excellent book for learning to grow & care for houseplants. It is full-color and packed with photos. It is loaded with advice on basic care & propagation, as well as elimination of pests & diseases.

I loved how it helped me choose a proper container for each plant & the appropriate room for its needs. I was also impressed that there were step-by-step instructions for installing supports for hanging plants & a growing stand.

An indispensable plant glossary in the back lists the plants by family. A photo is included along with common name, scientific name, size, description & propagation methods. Light, soil, & temperature needs are also here. The differences between the plant families are explained as well & many of the plants that make them up are listed. It even gives you decorating hints. Before you buy any houseplants, you must read this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book for beginners., Dec 9 2003

Kathy Busch (Sandwich, IL United States) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Easy-Care Guide to Houseplants (Paperback)
Easy-Care Guide to Houseplants is a beautiful book to look at, but it is for the beginner. The "how to" section does go into detail with beautiful pictures showing you each step of the way. The decorating ideas look nice, but it would be more practical if they were silk plants. The placement of the plants is very impractical, either the plants don't get enough light or watering the plants would be a hugh chore.
The Plant Profiles is just an introduction to houseplants. This book is definitely not for the experienced houseplant person who is looking for real information on individual plants. Experienced houseplant people keep looking this book isn't for you.
