Book Description

April 1 2009

In "Easy Elegance", Atlanta Bartlett offers a livable, practical, and elegant alternative to today's fast-changing parade of interior trends and glossy show homes. Comfort, simplicity, and a sense of practicality are the key elements. The knack lies in mixing the old with the new and the luxurious with the everyday to create a home that's warm and welcoming, yet versatile and chic. Atlanta starts by taking a look at the four main elements of the look: Comfort, Simplicity, Function, and Individuality. Next, in Setting the Scene, Atlanta maps out the five different facets of "Easy Elegance" to help you pinpoint the style that suits you best. There are the clean lines of Modern Elegance, the cozy comfort of Country Elegance, the quirky appeal of Retro Elegance, the soft sensuality of Feminine Elegance, or the vintage charm of Faded Elegance. Finally, in Easy Elegant Living, Atlanta takes you through every room in the house, demonstrating just how easy it can be to create a home that ticks all the boxes: warm, welcoming, relaxed, and stylish. *Explore these inspirational interiors and create a home that's practical, relaxed, and stylish. *Hundreds of ideas for easy, elegant design and decoration. *From the author of the best-selling "The Relaxed Home", which has sold more than 75,000 copies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the Best Design Book I've Read May 27 2009
By S. Hinton - Published on Amazon.com
I bought this book on a whim and it was even better than it seemed at first glance. The cover shot is an eclectic bohemian glam style, but the 'easy elegance' concept applies to multiple styles including modern, country and retro. Bartlett walks you through the concept of 'easy elegance' by reviewing it's four tenets: comfort, simplicity, function and individuality. Then it explains how to establish this in each room of the house.

You'd be surprised what a relief the 'easy elegance' vibe is. It's all about making a functional home full of what you love. It is not about details, paint colors and finishing touches. Bartlett is all about establishing the right vibe in your home, injecting yourself through your choice of furnishings.

It is just the book I've been looking for.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lots on "Easy" - Little on "Elegance" Aug. 30 2009
By Aurora Rodriguez - Published on Amazon.com

This book didn't compliment my own personal style or decorating approach. I can see where the decorating ideas were easy but I didn't think there was much "elegance." For example, page 74 shows a sofa with a shredded seat cover and faded paint. The author comments this "only add to its allure, giving it character and interest." I can handle the faded paint and possibly faded upholstery but anytime fabric is shredded (a severe tear in this case), I don't see the allure or character and I lost complete interest.

This is more for the person who seeks very easy, simple and relaxed style for their home and not particular in mixing and "not" matching color, style and design. However, great photography in this book.

This is absolutely the best design book I've come across so far, the pictures are so beautifully alluring that in creates a deep curiosity to see what the words actually say to describe the image and its contents. If only finding the beautiful furniture was a easy as fliping through the gorgeous pages.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Indeed Aug. 7 2009
By Ursula Blanks - Published on Amazon.com
What is elegance and how can we achieve it in our home? Ms. Bartlett answers this question and guides us on the concepts of simplicity, comfort and function while maintaining stylish individuality through design. Gorgeous photographs demonstrate several renditions of elegance through the use of old and new elements. Every room, as well as outdoor space, is addressed and each style is relaxed, approachable and easily accomplished without looking "decorated." A must-have book for fans of an understated yet elegant approach to decorating.
