Mad About This CD,
By S. Wallace - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Easy Virtue (Audio CD)
This cd is great! It's energetic, old-fashioned (in a good way), and very fun. It really makes me wish I could see the movie, but it is also a soundtrack that can stand independent of the film. It brings back the wonderful music of the 1930s with some new voices including Jessica Biel, Ben Barnes, and Colin Firth. I highly recommend it!

Insouciant/flippant and whimsical,

Indeed, just like the insouciant/flippant and whimsical movie from which it came this soundtrack album truly captures a certain spirit. A range of old stalwarts are trotted out here as well as a number of more modern numbers being given the 'old skool' treatment with a similar mindset to the music from Moulin Rouge.Ultimately if you enjoyed the comical film (that had a few poignant moments truth be told) then you will certainly enjoy the music on this disc as it's breezy nature will win you over with shameless ease, it's comic moments being pleasant reminders, perhaps, of a simpler time while it's swinging/winning ways are perfect for background noise while you are busy with something else - like writing reviews perhaps? 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful

It makes me feel like dancin,

I bought this because the music really grabbed me when I saw the film. there were some interesting musical choices given the time period of the film...Car wash for instance, when I heard that, I couldn't help but think, how witty! The orchestration is very jaunty, upbeat and played well. I like the singing a lot, and the liner notes are interesting. The majority are Cole Porter songs. The biggest reason that the music stayed in my head enough to buy the CD was, oddly enough, Billy Ocean's When The Going Get's Tough....It's the best cut in my opinion and words to live by! I enjoyed the film. Jessica Biel was very good in it and the costuming was fantastic....and it just seemed like a fairly apt representation of a way of life coming to a crumbling end. |
