Having a little food scale in your kitchen is critically important for anyone who wants to eat healthily.

I have been impressed by the features that this scale has versus ones I have had in the past, especially at this price point. And as both a home chef and diabetic, I have been weighing my food fairly continually for almost 10 years and gone through my fair share of scales.

First, this unit is nice and small. The black chrome model blends in with my counter top and does not take up much space! That is always important in my kitchen.

Next, it works terrific! On the left is an on/off button that also does a TARE function. That is, if you put an empty bowl on the scale, you can "re-zero" the scale so that the bowl does not count. You can then add items into the bowl and see how much they weigh.

The button on the right is actually the "unit" button. This switches easily between grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds. No matter what system you prefer to use, it is at your fingertips.

The scale can hold up to 11 pounds / 5 kg which is more than enough for all of the things I've been doing. With the TARE button it is great. You put on your mixing bowl. Hit TARE. Add in ingredient one, see its weight. Hit TARE again to reset it to zero at this new starting point. Add in ingredient two, see its weight. You get precise information about every step of what you're doing.

The LCD display on the scale is also nicely angled so its crisp and easy to read when you stand over a counter.

A big bonus was that it came with a 'Calorie Factor Booklet' that lets you easily figure the calorie count of non-packaged foods... fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, grains, nuts, etc. This is an angle I'd not yet seen - weigh the food, multiply the weight in grams by the calorie factor listed for that food, and you have the calories for that portion size.

I highly recommend this product.

This scale is affordable and works well. I use it for weighing out portion sizes and for measuring ingredients for baking and have had no troubles with it. It seems a little light weight (the base is make of plastic), but so far that has not seemed to affect the functioning. From reading other reviews, it seems that the company gives excellent customer service, which is a big plus for me, and one of the reasons I chose this scale, in addition to the price.

In culinary school and have access to spring loaded scales but prefer to use this model. Compact, light and has everything that you could need in regards to different units of measurement, auto shut off, zeroing out so that you can just keep adding ingredients to the same bowl. Simple to use. Very happy with my purchase.

Works well, no complaints here. The only real problem is that the plastic buttons feel cheap. You get what you pay for.

Received this for Christmas (on my recommendation) and I am using this quite often. I love the tare function, the small weight increments as well as options for grams, lbs, ounces, and kg. The display is large, and it could not be simpler to operate. As an example, I bought just over 33 pounds of honey this past weekend and had them poured into 12 1 litre mason jars. I was picking up for two other people as well. When I got home I tared the scale with an empty and then weighed them out so that I could charge back the exact amount to my friends who had ordered only 1 or two jars. I ended up getting the honey for $2.85 per pound! (The Honey House in Clarksburgh Ontario, just outside of Collingwood). I have also used this for baking (The Bourque Street Bakery Cookbook) as a lot of baking and bread recipes use weight instead of volume. My next project is to start making my own sourdough starters which all require weight measurements. For $23.95 you can't go wrong.

Overall:
If you're looking for a cheap scale that is accurate, includes tare, and multiple measurement units, this is the device to get.

Pros:

1. Accurate at all levels. I tested using several calibration weights ranging from <10grams to >1kg.
2. Easy to use. Literally just two buttons.
3. Accepts AAA batteries, unlike other scales which take expensive button cell batteries.
4. Finish doesn't chip or wear down. As a messy chef, this thing really stands up to the damage I inflict on it.
5. Cheap. At $30 this is a steal.
6. Two year warranty. I haven't had to use this so I can't comment on whether it is a positive or negative.

Cons:

1. Buttons feel cheap/clunky and are kind of loud. Nowhere near Nintendo controller quality.
2. Writing on buttons rubbed off within the first week of use. The writing should have been laser etched. dye sublimation printed, or double shot injection molded to prevent this. Considering the device is only two buttons and I've gotten use to using it, this won't really affect me.
3. Batteries that come with the device are 'trial batteries'. I don't even really care if the device came with batteries or not, so not much of an issue for me.
