4.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable - certainly deserving of the series if not the 'best' of the series., Feb 22 2012

Wasn't sure what to expect of this one - have enjoyed each of this Series, but wonder when or if the wheels will fall off. Not with this one! It is likely the strongest of the Series so far. The eye candy is more plentiful, the story is strong, the cast is good (re: easy to look at) and good performances all round. Good production values too add to the visuals. Whether you've seen the other work in the Series or not, this one is worth catching!

4.0 out of 5 stars Drama Queens!, Feb 12 2012

This review is from: Eating Out: Drama Camp (DVD)
All aboard for the fourth instalment of the `Eating Out' series. If you have seen the ones before, then you pretty much know what to expect. This time our old friends Chris Salvatore and Daniel Shelton as boyfriends Zak and Casey, are off to summer camp; but it aint no ordinary camp no it is Dick Dickies Drama Camp -`welcome to the theatre ladies!'

The film starts as it means to go on with a cliché smothered, porno shower scene with the hot but gullible plumber who has come to clear the pipes. Turns out to be a scene from a student film, called, `Homo-cidal'. Mink Stole puts in an appearance and steals the scene as a licentious Aunt Helen, and then they are all aboard the fun bus to really get to see how to put the camp in drama. That is except Benji (Aaron Milo) who pretends to be straight - a real test of his acting ability, but wait Zak falls for him, Casey notices but Casey gets hit on by fellow camper and would be naturist Beau (Ronnie Kroell). Thus the lines between acting and reality are blurred as suppressed emotions force our heroes to inject their true feelings into the Shakespeare plays they are having to practice.

Then Dick Dickie drops the bombshell; there is to be no sex on campus any detractors will be expelled and worst of all -no refunds.

Thus the scene is set for a whole manner of shenanigans, that are over acted to the hilt, and it is fair to say the film does not take itself too seriously. There is even one line that goes `sequels usually suck'. In acting class they are encouraged to develop their oral skills, which is sound advice for any one really. We have a dance routine and song (Drama Queen) in the middle, which wasn't half bad, so long as you like glitter on your cheese. We also have a reference to `the fruit machine', a nasty government plan in Canada to out homosexuals by forcing them to watch `beefcake' photos and measuring their levels of arousal - so a serious line, though somewhat hidden in the mirth.

Director Q. Allan Brocka has done a good job of taking the franchise forward, but as some others have said, the charm is giving way to the smutty one liners. I actually don't mind that, there are enough films that deal with scary, serious relationships, this one is going for the gags (no pun intended). There are no surprises and no-one dusting their trophy cabinets in expectation that their performance will see them being publicly lauded; that aside if you want some harmless fun with some good looking blokes and smut a plenty, then this will not let you down. Whilst this is not a great movie, I liked it as I still have a schoolboy sense of humour, and that is why I am giving it four stars.

I must've watched like over a hundred gay rom-com's in my life it feels like but it never really gets old. I found a lot of similarities here to Camp (a better movie for sure) which paved the way for this one. Watch Camp if u have the chance.
