Product Description

Product Description

Educational Measurement has been the bible in its field since the first edition was published by ACE in 1951. The importance fo this fourth edition of Educational Measurement is to extensiely update and extend the topics treated in the preious three editions. As such, the fourth edition documents progress in the field and provides critical guidance to the efforts of new generations of researchers and practitioners. Edited by Robert Brennan and jointly sponsored by the American Council on Education (ACE) and the National Council on Measurement in Education, the fourth edition provides in-depth treatments of critical measurement topics, and the chapter authors are acknowledged experts in their respective fields. Educational measurement researchers and practitioners will find this text essential, and those interested in statistics, psychology, business, and economics should also find this work to be of very strong interest. Topics covered are divided into three subject areas: theory and general principles; construction, administration, and scoring; and applications. The first part of the book covers the topics of validation, reliability, item response theory, scaling and norming, linking and equating, test fairness, and cognitive psychology. Part two includes chapters on test development, test administration, performance assessment, setting performance standards, and technology in testing. The final section includes chapters on second language testing, testing for accountability in K-12 schools, standardized assessment of individual achievement in K-12 schools, higher education admissions testing, monitoring educational progress, licensure and certification testing, and legal and ethical issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars the book of books for anyone wanting to know more about educational measurement, May 11 2010

This review is from: Educational Measurement (Hardcover)
This book is a collection of chapters each written by the world's leading experts in the field. Most chapters is exhaustive and tell the reader anything s/he needs to know about the topic. The chapter on reliability unfortunately only deals only with classical test theory, generalisability theory and item response theory and ignores the whole line of domain referenced framework (e.g. the early work of Berk), something Kane for example refers to in his chapter on validity. I have been working in educational assessment for over 19 years and yet I learnt a lot from reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The reference on the field of educational measurement, Oct 27 2009
By Renato H. L. Pedrosa - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Educational Measurement (Hardcover)
This is the book you need in your library if educational measurement is of any interest to you and fellow users. First part cover the main aspects of measurement, including validity, reliability, item response theory, etc. Then there are many other relevant papers, including practical aspects like licensing and admissions to higher education testing. Each chapter will help the reader to locate the main references in the subject. In short: highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must Buy", Feb 27 2012

This review is from: Educational Measurement (Hardcover)
Considered the Bible of Educational Measurement, each chapter addresses a particular topic and is written by people considered to be the foremost authority on the subject matter.

Considering the time-frame between publication of a new edition of this book, the cost of purchasing the latest copy is money well spent.
