Electric Warrior, T. Rex's best album, distills elements of Marc Bolan's earlier acoustic period with a dynamic rock rhythm section--drummer Bill Legend and bassist Steve Currie--and lush arrangements by producer Tony Visconti. Featuring the classics "Bang a Gong (Get It On)," "Jeepster," and "Mambo Sun," Warrior ranges from the space blues of "Lean Woman Blues" to the punk jazz of "Rip Off," with a sound fleshed out by chamber strings and the falsetto harmonies of ex-Turtles and Mothers of Invention members Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman. (Zappa sideman Ian McDonald plays sax as well.) Touches such as the arcing cellos of "Cosmic Dancer" and the sexy rhythms of "Planet Queen" perfectly bring to life Bolan's imaginative world of "diamond star halos" and "shadowless horses." A must for any serious collector of British rock classics. This remastered reissue is fleshed out with a half-dozen bonus tracks and a band interview. --James Rotondi

Received my copy today from .UK. Beautiful box with a really good hard covered book containing essays and articles on the band (well Bolan and company). Some nice postcard sized photo's and Promo pictures. 21 demos and out takes. The DVD has a lot of lip sinc performances on it. It does have a couple of tracks from the Born To Booqie concerts but if you bought the deluxe DVD of that film then you already have them. The sound is great but i stll feel the best sounding versions of this record are the SACD or DVD-A if you can find them. Why they did not include the 5.1 on the DVD i don't know maybe we will get it for the 50th anniversary edition. What can I say a nice package for a perfect record. Ended up getting mine from .UK. I gave .ca four days to give me an update and with visions of the Thin Lizzy BBC fiasco where we waited just to be told they could not get it I broke down canceled my order and went to .UK and Stll got it before .ca received stock. Shipped last Friday to receive it today. Fast even by .uk standerds. Thank God for Amazon.UK.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the few remasters that are worth it Sep 13 2012

It's hard to imagine how this (insert best-adjective-ever here) album could get any better -then it's remastered, and it does. In the realm of the remastered Aqualung, the remastered Electric Warrior is entirely worth owning even if, like me, it's the fourth format you've sprung for over the course of your four decades. The bonus tracks are fun, but it's obvious why they weren't originally on the album. The pin-point sound and accoustics are the reason to buy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Really Is Just Three Chords Jun 3 2004

Time has been kind to Marc Bolan. No rocket scientist, Marc always just assumed his boppy elfin schtick set to the simplest of boogie beats would be accepted by one and all as the works of a genius. Initially adored mainly by 12 year old girls in England, his music has grown in stature over the years as tastes changed leaving him high and dry as the sole purveyer of a perculiar (in all senses of the word) style of rock that has over time proved remarkably difficult to reproduce. Electric Warrior is to Bolan what Ziggy Stardust was to Bowie (his friend at the time). Electric Warrior cuts loose from Bolans previous hippie ramblings, best realised on "Beard of Stars", and powered by superb production, and the judicious use of real musicians, the album boogies its three chord wonders into an entirely new domain that retains its unique charms to this day. Not deep, not complex, not even all that sensible, Electric Warrior nevertheless works and provides a telling reminder that 'pop' music is a rush that dosn't have to make sense it just has to make you feel good. Very good.
