Crysis 2 is a totally engrossing and submersive game that will have you glued to your monitor for ever how long it takes to complete...and still it will leave you begging for more.I have never played the original Crysis,so I cannot compare the two products,as in one is better than the other.I have always been a FPS lover though and this FPS/RPG game gets top marks all the way.
The scene is NYC and it is being devastated by the Ceph,an alien race bent on the takeover of Earth.A cryo/nano suit was developed to create an army of superior soldiers, the only ones capable of really doing any damage to the creatures. As one soldier by the name of Prophet is nearing his end,he passes on his DNA and subsequently his suit to a dying grunt by the name of Alcatraz.Alcatraz takes over where Prophet left off, with the same protocols and mission,to stop the Ceph.
The game takes you from one "crisis"(Crysis)to another. You(as Alacatraz)not only are battling the aliens but our own ground troops.Eventually you are welcomed and assist the troops but there are interfering generals, scientists and others who want a piece of you,in more ways than one. There is an ultimate secret to your development that will be revealed, but to get there you will battle through the war torn streets of NYC,fall and jump several stories,be under falling debris and collapsing buildings, swim in the filthy rivers and sewers and all in order to save humanity.Your nano suit is fully customizable all the way through and in fact you will collect nano particles,or the life essence of the aliens,in order to better upgrade your suit.Weapons and accompanying ammo are plentiful and there are many, many collectibles along the way which increases your game cred.

4.0 out of 5 stars A flawed, yet epic change of scenery Nov. 21 2011

CRYSIS is a name synonymous with heavy computational horsepower. The original Crysis was released for the PC platform in 2007 and could not be run by 3/4 of home computers at the time on anything but the lowest settings. Early implementation of DirectX 10 technologies made running Crysis a beautiful, yet very difficult experience. Framerates rarely rose above 25FPS even on 2009/2010-era hardware. Most folks aren't aware that the original Crysis suffered from some extremely bad, un-optimized coding which damned the game to its fate. Proof of this can be seen with Crysis: Warhead, which runs far smoother than its predecessor. Crysis 2 changes the game with a much more streamlined graphics engine and code that runs fast, efficient and beautiful without sacrificing clarity or quality.

The game takes place not long after the events of the first Crysis. The player assumes the role of Force Recon Marine "Alcatrez" whose attack chopper is shot down before his mission can get underway. Suffering severe internal injuries and barely making it to shore, Alcatrez is rescued by a strange soldier in a powerful nano-suit, later revealed to be Prophet, the C.O. of the original team from the first game. Alcatrez awakens from unconsciousness to find himself encased in the nano-suit with special instructions from Prophet who has since committed suicide for ambiguous reasons. The player must take up Prophet's mission to combat the alien "Ceph" threat (short for Cepholopods) while avoiding capture by CELL, a special ops group commissioned by CryNet, the manufacturers of the nano-suit. As the war heats up, Alcatrez must utilize all the nano-suit's incredible technology while simultaneously transforming into the ultimate weapon to overcome the Ceph threat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game for any FPS Fan April 5 2011
Platform for Display:PC
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Let me keep this short and simple - This is the best FPS I have played since the original "Far Cry". My system has a Quad core i7 2.8ghz, 12 gigs RAM, an 1.8gig video card (GTX 260 I think), and easily plays the game on Extreme settings with no frame issues. It is fun, easy or hard depending what level you play on, has exceptional set pieces and even a surprisingly decent story through the second half. Even the ending didn't piss me off, like MANY FPS have done in the past.

Buy it. Play it. You will LOVE it.

My title sums up what I think about this game. It's like Half-life 2 with its cinematic set pieces, and the graphics in the environment are especially cool. But the cost of those set pieces seems to be that the single player game is very linear. You have to go exactly where the game tells you to go and nowhere else. There's some choice of how to handle the bad guys when you arrive at a set piece, but I'd have loved more of an open world feel, to explore New York as it's being taken over by aliens.
