About Dragon Age II

Embark on an all-new adventure spread across a ten-year span of years with an all-new hero in the multiple award-winning Dragon Age saga. In Dragon Age II you are Hawke, said to have been one of the few to survive the destruction of your homeland. Forced to fight for survival, you gathered the deadliest of allies, amassed fame and fortune and sealed your place in history, eventually becoming in effect a legend in your own time. But legends are all in the telling.

Dragon Age II utilizes a nonlinear narrative, taking the form of a story-within-a-story that hinges upon your exploits as told by the storyteller, Varick. Yet like any good storyteller, Varick tends to exaggerate from time to time. When questioned on events related to Hawke, Varick may present a different scenario in which Hawke's exploits play out. It is within these replays that the decisions of the players hold sway, as their particular versions of Hawke relive these events. Is the player's particular version of Hawke, male or female? A warrior, a rogue, or a mage? Is Hawke good-natured or something less than a salt-of-the-Earth type? Is romance in the air amongst characters he/she associates with? These choices are all the player's to make and each affect the the outcome of the story at all levels.

Game Features

  • Embark upon an all-new adventure that takes place across an entire decade and shapes itself around every decision you make

4.0 out of 5 stars Feels rushed May 16 2011
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I actually liked it. Having enjoyed the first one, and the add-on, I had very low expectations going into Dragon Age 2. Nothing could be as great as the first installment.

I know this is weird to say, but that low expectation might have assisted me in enjoying it. It's true that your companions can no longer wear your gear. It's also true that the scenes take place in the same environments very often (just like the first one).

But I found the story line of Dragon Age 2 to be more profound than Dragon Age 1: immigrants are forced to go to an island where they aren't wanted. So your main character has to prove himself. (Don't worry, I won't spoil it for you) And as in Dragon Age 1, there is also a sub storyline about the treatment of magic users as terrorists. Immigration and terrorism are two very modern subjects that make the story current and interesting.

I bought this came as soon as it came out. It was much more expensive than it is now. I consider today's price a good deal.

3.0 out of 5 stars The game that left me wanting more April 13 2012
By P. Smith TOP 500 REVIEWER
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Okay. I LOVE Dragon age 1 and Dragon age awakening.

However, Dragon Age 2 is a whole new kettle of fish!

There are some good points to this game. I found it amusing when the characters from the first 2 games popped up during the story. However, it made me think that a person must play Dragon Age 1, and awakening to fully understand Dragon Age 2.

The controls are essentually the same. So if you liked them during the first Dragon Age you will like them in this one.

My biggest disapointment was the repetitive map layouts. Come on game desiners. dont try to take me to a new area and use the map from the old area. That is just lazy game design!

I found the story engaging. However...it felt anticlimatic at the end. I like the concept of playing over a 10 year span but the overall story left me feeling...disconnected.

Dragon Age 1 was a great step forward. Unfortunitally...Dragon Age 2 was two steps backwards. For a person who LOVES this game series I say play it.

To EA Games...I say listen to your fans and learn from your mistakes with dragon Age 2.

Would I have played this game again? Yes...but that is because I am eagerly awaiting Dragon Age 3.

2.0 out of 5 stars I think I've been here before... April 14 2011
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
Imagine an MMO with 10 zones where you're the only player online. This is the Dragon Age 2 experience.

You will have seen every area there is to see within the first 2 hours of gameplay. From there on, you're accepting fetch quests from random NPCs, you're fighting waves of enemies who appear from thin air, you're opening nondescript boxes for armor and weapons that you either can't use, or don't need.

You'll explore the same warehouses, you'll wander around the same empty, lifeless city markets, you'll occasionally leave the city to go to the same cave, the same mine, the same coastline. The game is full of busy work and forgettable sidequests.

Yet for some reason, I'm still playing. Is this a comment on the quality of the story, or the lack of other solid RPG options this generation of consoles? I haven't yet decided.

With all its faults, there are some positives. This is, after all, a Bioware game, and with that you have a plethora of interesting characters and a relatively compelling story line. The dialogue options are the real game here; not the overhauled combat, and certainly not the exploration and discovery.

If you're looking for a friendship simulator that also lets you blow people up by stabbing them, then you may enjoy this game. If you're looking for an epic RPG with exotic locales, stunning setpieces and a fully fleshed out world, then you will be disappointed.
