I have always been a fan of the NHL series, so of course I was very eager to play its newest iteration: NHL 13. Honestly, It's a little bit disappointing. While the idea of having a realistic skating engine seems good, it is not implemented very well. I often found myself missing the old "point and go" skating of 12 and below. Speed burst was removed years ago for a reason. You end up holding it down 99% of the time, and when you let it go to make a deke, players from the other team will catch you. The hitting engine also appears too exaggerated. If every player who gets hit goes flying onto the ice, the challenge of demolishing players isn't there. All in all, the graphics are definitely an improvement, and the game is extremely fun, but I can't help but play 12 once in a while, and enjoy uncomplicated skating. It's still a fantastic game, just not as good as I was hoping for.
