I started ballet as an adult and I find that this DVD goes well with the formal training I received. Because I am often require to travel for work, I will often bring this DVD with me to train from my hotel room.
I would not recommend this DVD to individuals who have never taken a formal ballet or dance classes. The posture is extremely important to prevent injuries (i.e. straight back, strong abs, natural rotation of the hips, pointed toes, etc.).
I have done this DVD for the third time now and every time I feel it was a great workout. The DVD is only 50 minutes, but an intense 50 minutes.
This is my first day using this DVD. I am looking for tonned result, so perhaps I'll post another review in four weeks. I can tell you so far, that if you keep your posture straight, and your abs tight (the best you can), you'll be feeling the moves after one session.
The only downfall is that the DVD doesn't take the time to tell you the best posture or ways to point your toes. Take care, because if these moves are not done properly, you could potentially hurt yourself. For example, you don't want to be feeling strain in your knees. If you are you are either bending too far down, are not standing straight, or doing the move wrong. It's just a shame the DVD doesn't address these issues.
Length: About 50mins (from start to finish). There is a warm-up to begin. The workout. And a five minute stretch/cooldown (which may not be long enough for some people considering the work that is done). I did find the video kind of lengthy because you are working hard for the entire workout.
However, I would definitely do this again and I will most certainly add it to my collection of workout DVDS.
The emphasis: is on legs, butt and abs. By the end of this workout all of these parts of your body will be shaking or burning unless you are very fit to begin with. Arms are only targeted by keeping them in the air and holding them, there is no specific arm work. I have strong arms so my arms weren't that sore by the end of the workout but I don't think anyone can hold their arms out for 50 mins and not feel at least a slight burn, so I actually thought it was a great way to tone my arms without adding bulk. The movements are done in a way so you will also work on your general flexibility and hip flexor movement as well.
Dance level needed: there have been many posts about needing to have a ballet background before trying this DVD. I have NO dance experience and I managed to get this done. I obviously cannot say I am 100 percent sure I had proper form but I found the instructions were good and I made sure to mirror the instructor's body. At no point did I feel the wrong type of pain.
Difficulty: This workout is hard. I enjoy challenging workouts, and I was able to get through the DVD, but I was just not expecting it to be so difficult. If that is how a dancer actually trains, I have new respect for them haha.Read more ›
