Art Brut are a rare musical act indeed. Instead of hiding the lead vocals in a haze of voice correction software, they recite the lyrics to the tune and it works. "Emily Kane" tells the tale of the singer's girlfriend when they were both fifteen, and how it was the happiest time of his life. Even though she broke up with him, he doesn't even know if she's still alive, he hasn't seen her in ten years and all his friends think he's insane for holding out for her. Did I say ten years? Make that 10 years, 9 months, 3 weeks, 4 days, 6 hours, 13 minutes and 5 seconds to be exact.
Seriously. That's a part of the lyrics. That's how wacky this band are. They sound like nobody else on Earth, and in this age of pop product placement and insincere lip-synching, it's what the world of rock needs. Buy their stuff.
