Book Description

Dec 1 2005
Every one of us, at some time in our lives, has met a genius ? someone who has mastered an intellectual or artistic domain beyond the grasp of others. But there is another form of genius ? a rare brilliance found in those who are both graceful and compassionate under pressure, who face their most difficult feelings with openness and attention, and who have the uncanny ability to transform the temperaments of those around them. What are the keys to these extraordinary gifts? Can anyone learn them? On Emotional Genius, you will learn that all of your emotions ? even your darkest and most difficult feelings ? are carriers of energy and information that have the power to protect and heal you. How to marshall these beneficial forces is the secret of emotional genius. The good news, teaches Karla McLaren, is that anyone can learn to master this life-changing aptitude. With her unique methods, McLaren has helped hundreds of people overcome the persistent cycles that perpetuate depression, anxiety, and other troubling emotional states. Now, in this absorbing nine-hour training program, you will learn how to create a safe and centered inner foundation for working with your emotions ? how to release the mental and physiological patterns that block your healthy emotional flow ? and how to begin retrieving the insights and healing energies that await you within each of your feeling states. The seventeenth-century philosopher Spinoza once wrote: ?Suffering ceases to be suffering as soon as we have formed a clear and precise picture of it.' With Emotional Genius, you can begin to achieve this supreme human accomplishment, with the very emotions that you are experiencing right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet your mind while you get in touch with your emotions. March 20 2007

This view and explanation of how our emotions affect us personally as people and as healers has been an eye-opener for me. Our society is so focused on the logical brain and rewarded for logical thinking that some people cannot feel anything. They cannot feel their emotions or if they do feel them, they suppress them as wrong or out of control. It is not just the body, mind and spirit we need to balance and count on. It is the body, mind, "emotions" and spirit which will guide us to make healthy choices for our lives. I want to thank Karla for placing one more tool back on our plate.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a relief! Feb. 12 2007
By Melissa H. Jefferson - Published on Amazon.com
I've finally learned how to welcome my emotions without feeling the need to suppress or express them in an unhealthy manner. Karla teaches a wonderful technique for creating a santuary within yourself so you can stay in your body instead of becoming numb when circumctances become overwhelming. I really love the part about using anger to burn contracts in order to end difficult relationships and behaviors.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem for those with Open Hearts and Minds May 27 2007
By karina k - Published on Amazon.com
Giving emotions the specialized attention they deserve (a word which oddly applies when emotions are viewed in the way she presents them here), Karla McLaren helps those of us who are emotionally sensitive--and know it!--to manage our feelings and our lives, and to better understand ourselves and others. She helps us tune into the energies of, and messages conveyed by, the individual emotions--including suicidal urges, which are much more manageable and less overpowering when demystified in her unique way.

I learned a lot from listening to this tape. She combines self management and a metaphysical approach to working with our emotional experience.

This is my second copy of Emotional Genius. I "loaned" the first and never saw it again. Each disc is packed with relevant information so much so I have to take a break after each disc and let it all soak in for a bit. After my first run through of Emotional Genius I could see that my emotions have incredible value as long as I feel them and not stuff them. McLaren can make even grief seem a doable process as opposed to something to avoid at all costs. Emotions have a short life if we feel them and there is something to learn from each. I keep listening to this because I want to remember it all and it is a comforting companion when in an emotional crises.
