Book Description

Feb. 5 2008 Encyclopedia Brown (Book 5)
Leroy Brown is back in the next six books in the Encyclopedia Brown series. As Idaville’s ten-year-old star detective, Encyclopedia has an uncanny knack for trivia. With his unconventional knowledge, he solves mysteries for the neighborhood kids through his own detective agency. But his dad also happens to be the chief of the Idaville police department, and every night around the dinner table, Encyclopedia helps him solve some of the most baffling crimes. With ten confounding mysteries in each book, not only does Encyclopedia have a chance to solve them, but readers are given all the clues as well and can chime in with their own solutions. Interactive and fun—it’s classic Encyclopedia Brown!

“I loved Encyclopedia Brown as a kid.”—Junot Diaz, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Readable, Inspiring June 8 2008
By K.A.Goldberg - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The Encyclopedia Brown series is an excellent way to encourage youngsters to read critically, think, and have fun doing it. In this example, as in others, Leroy (Encyclopedia) Brown and his friend Sally run a youthful detective agency in Idaville, matching withs with Bugs Meany, the Lions, and other juvenile wrong-doers. The cases involve theft of fruit wagons, and other minor (and sometimes un-minor) crimes. Each mystery is concise and easiy read, but some are easier than others to solve. I read this book as a kid and often failed to find the answers; as an adult most are solveable, but once or twice I had to peak at the solutions in the back pages. This is excellent reading for youngsters and young mystery fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 9 year old son loves Encyclopedia Brown! May 14 2012
By SpacePlowboy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My 9 year old son is smart which includes being head-strong; and loves to read nonfiction. These series of books has caught his attention (after I bribed him to read the first chapter, he was hooked after that). He will read the entire book in an evening and then ask to get the next one. I will quiz him on the content of what he read and he is able to pick up the details of the events as well as why/how Encyclopedia Brown solved the case. Overall: these books keep my son reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars You can request but please don't require. Thank you. Feb. 1 2014
By Mari Olen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Again, please ask. Do not require. It doesn't sit well. I love Encyclopedia Brown. It was recommended to me from my 9 year-old grandson. I was curious, so I ordered it. I also wanted to be able to discuss some of the cases with my grandson. To my delightful surprise, most adults should read this. It's absolute logic. But put into simple, straight-forward language. I highly recommend this book to everyone, child and adult.
