Old-fashioned and modern at the same time

I have been re-reading a lot of books I enjoyed as a child, and I thought this one stood the test of time. On closer review, it was published much later and has been modernized (refers to computers and such) and it is far more accessible than other EB books. The mysteries are also a bit easier. I would start young kids out on this one before trying out some of the others that might be harder to solve, or more dated. It was not obnoxiously modernized either-- like the Nancy Drew sleepover book.
